As a student myself I’m pretty familiar with the struggle of whether or not to get a job over the summer. Including the struggle to find one that works and pays well. I’ve watched many of my friends struggle with just this issue, so I hope to help alleviate the stress and difficulty of finding a summer job with these recommendations.
Probably the most obvious on this list and likely the most difficult, but it usually comes with the most perks. Things like discounted food or more flexible hours than other jobs. An average of $12/hr
Whether you are working on or off-campus this entry-level job is widely available and often flexible when it comes to hours. With the average pay of $13/hr, it’s perfect for a little extra cash
A bit of a mid-ground between fast food and other jobs as it’s not as taxing as fast-food service. But often you still get perks however not as many as working at a fast-food restaurant. An average of $14/hr
One of my favorites, for all those movie buffs. The work can be a bit gross at times but like Fast-food service, the perks make it pretty worthwhile. As you often get free movie viewings and discounts on expensive movie theater food. With an average of $12/hr
For those who love both the outdoors and working with kids. It also gives an opportunity to be away from home for those desperate to be more independent. With a salary of $12/hr and $2,000/month on average.
For those with a green thumb who enjoy being around plants and are willing to do a bit of manual labor. Often taking care of plants and helping customers, whether that be with finding or carrying the plants to their cars. It has an average of $13/hr
Animal lovers watch out, this is for you. You get to enjoy a day of playing and taking care of dogs with an average of $7/hr for those watching dogs on their own and doggy daycare employees earn right around $13/hr.
These jobs can vary quite a bit but there are often many entry-level jobs in hotels, especially the chain hotels. Whether it be the front desk job or a part-time clerk they all range in pay but on average, within the U.S. a front desk worker earns $14/hr
For those who love teaching or are just smart and willing to help others, tutoring is for you. With both options that allow for in-person institutions and remote tutoring, there is quite a bit of freedom around this job. With a higher average pay of $18/hr which evens out as tutors often work a bit less than some of these other jobs.
This is my personal favorite, a fairly calm slow job that is perfect for those who love reading and learning. Where you will often reshelf books and help people find books or genres they are looking for. With an average of $14/hr
