Essential Job Functions
Essential Functions I
Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers and co-workers.

Knows and demonstrates the Standards of Compassionate Service and AIDET.
Recordkeeping and distribution of controlled substances.
Understands and properly carries out procedures for distribution, storage, charging, reconciling and recordkeeping of controlled substances in ADM and Non-ADM transactions.
Preparation of intravenous admixtures and solutions.
Understands and carries out proper procedures to maintain infection control and aseptic technique in the preparation of intravenous and irrigation solutions according to USP 797 standards.
Calculates correct amount of additive(s) and avoids incompatibilities.
Completes annual Media Fill test.
Maintaining work area for preparation of IV solutions.
Follows procedure for proper USP 797 cleaning of Biological Safety Cabinets and documentation of cleaning.
Maintains stock in IV room including additives and non-billable supplies with an awareness for back-up stock.
Handling and ordering stock.
Packaging drug products and label preparation.
Follows proper procedure for packaging extemporaneous unit dose products, pre-packaging high volume drugs not available in unit dose, and preparing other extemporaneous labels according to standardized labeling policy.
Interview patients and/or their families for the purpose of compiling an accurate and complete list of prescription, over-the-counter and herbal medications the patient was taking before admission to the hospital as well as verify patient's last doses, allergy information and preferred pharmacy.
Contact patient's physician's office and/or pharmacy for the purpose of compiling an accurate and complete list of patient's prescriptions, over-the-counter and herbal medications.
Nursing unit and/or floor inspections.
Follows proper procedure for monthly nursing unit and/or floor inspection and checking for outdated drugs in ADM, code carts and Pharmacy stock.
Completes inspections by the 20th of the month.
Filling Non-ADM medications for patients.
Follows proper procedure for filling as needed and scheduled medications for patients if not stocked in ADM.
Delivers these medications to the appropriate place in the nursing unit.
Will consult Pharmacist for items that should be loaded in ADM.
Restocking Pharmacy from back-up stock.
Training and orientation of new employees.
Essential Functions II
Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
Follows and understands the mission, vision, core values, Employee Standards of Compassionate Care/AIDET and company policies/procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
