Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Plans and schedules specific work assignments on a daily or project-to-project basis within specified time requirements. Arranges for adequate personnel, materials and equipment to accomplish the work. Assigns tasks to be performed. Explains prescribed methods and procedures. Instructs subordinates on new procedures and provides assistance on problems. Recommends individuals to full vacancies or for promotion or reassignment. Schedules leave and approves leave for short periods of time. Performs the nonsupervisory functions of the organizational segment supervised. Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates adhere to prescribed safety guidelines and regulations.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training which demonstrates the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WS-09 must have 36 months experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct and organize work assignments for lower graded personnel. Experience which required review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided a knowledge of the various lines of work performed by the function and associated support organizations. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Experience in aircraft maintenance and repair, including the ability to diagnose, analyze, and identify malfunctions to determine probable sources and cause of trouble. Experience in guiding other mechanics in making repairs. Possess thorough knowledge of the operational characteristics of fixed wing aircraft systems, to include a comprehensive understanding of principles of turbine engines and armament subsystems and powertrain, as they relate to characteristics of flight. Possess a thorough knowledge of the various aircraft systems operating under live engine power in order to diagnose malfunctions and identify malfunctions which require the services of other skilled aircraft specialists.

COMPATIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to and qualify in a compatible military position. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technical school training in a military status. Compatible assignments include: AFSC: 2A3XX, 2A590, 2A5X1, 2A5X4, 2A6XX, 2A8X1, 2A8X2C, 2A8X1C, 2A8X1E, 2A8X2E.

MILITARY GRADE: Enlisted

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion. Lifts equipment and components weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts weights up to 80 pounds such as generators, engine starters, and ejection seats with the assistance of weight handling equipment or other workers.WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands and in temperature and humidity extremes. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids; fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps; engine noise, heat, blast, intake suction, rotating propellers; explosive munitions; electrical voltage; cartridge actuating devices; liquid oxygen; fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints and solvents.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.
