Job Title: Substitute Teacher

Schedule: On call, 7:45am to 3:45pm, Monday-Friday

Location: Residential Treatment Center

  • Under the general direction of the Director of Special Education, provides teaching instruction per the instructional plans by the regular classroom teacher.

  • Teaches core subjects (e.g., reading, writing, mathematics, and social studies) at the Behavioral Health School:

    Implements instructional plans as provided by the regular classroom teacher.

    Demonstrates a commitment to the use of a behavioral approach to motivate student learning.

    Incorporates social skills instruction into daily classroom activities.

    Maintains a high level of professional competence via in-service education, self-selected professional education, and curriculum development.

    Delivers instruction in an effective and efficient manner.

    Supports school-related extracurricular activities.

    Complies with applicable policies and procedures for a youth physical intervention (personal restraint) in the event of emergency safety situations.

  • Demonstrates concern and respect for individual students:

    Assumes major responsibility for the academic /social skills growth of each student.

    Cares for student’s health and wellbeing during the school day.

  • Interacts with various professionals and family members regarding individual student progress:

    Communicates with other professionals (e.g., administrators, counselors, teachers) regarding individual student needs and progress.

    Evaluates and reports individual student progress to Behavioral Health Administrators.

  • Serves as a role model in carrying out the Boys Town National Research Hospital mission:

    Directs all activities towards the fulfillment of the Boys Town National Research Hospital mission.

    Creates atmosphere of enthusiasm and commitment.

    Directs all actions to reflect the values and principles of Boys Town National Research Hospital.

    Executes the Vice President's and immediate supervisor's policies and plans loyally.

    Follows chain of command and is an effective team member.

    Communicates directly with internal and/or external customers to assure proper resolution of concerns and satisfaction of inquiries.

    Speaks positively of Boys Town's decisions, processes, and programs to other staff and outside consumers.

    Does not gossip and does not listen to others gossiping.

    Speaks positively to those who are gossiping and admonishes them to cease.

    Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence, and ethical behavior.

    Continually increases technical competency of self and others through education and research within their field.

    Recognized by peers as a leader in Mission, Vision, and Values.

    When all present tasks are accomplished, asks peers if there is work that he/she can do for them.

    Supports other members of the management team and their work.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    Ability to provide instructional plans in the classroom.

    Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing.

    Ability to work well with all levels of professionals, family members and students.

    Ability to be a role model in carrying out the Boys Town Mission.

  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Must possess a valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate.

  • Background and experience to include work with learning disabled and behaviorally impaired learners, preferred.

  • Must possess a commitment to and ability to work with boys and girls with special academic and emotional needs.

  • Current CPR, PEM and nationally recognized personal restraint model must be obtained during Pre-service training.
