Contact Lens Technician/Optician

Contact lens optician – Midwest Eye Care is searching for an optician to fit and sell contact lenses at our Omaha offices at 4353 Dodge Street and 13500 California Street and 715 Harmony Street in Council Bluffs.  The optician works closely with the MEC doctors to select the appropriate lens materials and design, assess the fit of the lens on the eye, and maximize the patient’s vision.  The Contact Lens optician is also responsible for helping answer patient phone calls, submitting contact lens orders, processing mail, submitting claims to third party vision plans, and dispensing or mailing contacts to patients as needed.   The successful applicant does not need experience in fitting contact lenses, but he or she must have familiarity with optical concepts and be able to learn quickly.  The position requires working closely with patients, so customer service skills are essential.  In addition, MEC utilizes electronic medical records and a computerized scheduling system, so the applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software.  Contact lens opticians wear designated scrubs and tennis shoes each day.  This position does include one or two Saturday morning clinics per month, and occasionally Tuesday evening clinics until 7:00.  The position is hourly and is scheduled for 36 – 42 hours per week, with overtime paid for worked hours beyond 40 hours per week. 

All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results are reviewed and approved.
