The Auto Club Group (ACG) provides membership, travel, insurance and financial services offerings to approximately 9 million members and customers across 11 states and 2 U.S. territories through the AAA, Meemic and Fremont brands. ACG belongs to the national AAA federation and is the second largest AAA club in North America. 

  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (details of the basic job functions):

 

Prepares financial related analyses and research to support and facilitate timely management decisions and/or financial reports or statements.  Performs tasks necessary to ensure data integrity within the financial systems.  Analyzes and evaluates financial impact of various decisions or transactions on financial results. Interacts with other departments and management to provide timely follow-up to inquiries and requests for financial data.  Interprets results and proves recommendations for appropriate action plans.  Develops and maintains complex financial models.  Prepares and presents written and oral reports/documents.  Provides support for internal and external auditors by preparing schedules, responding to inquiries and implementing recommended changes.  Coordinates, tests and documents system changes or upgrades.  Represents finance on corporate teams and initiatives. Develops and maintains job documentation and procedures.

Asset Control & Reporting
 

Performs accounting activities including journal entries, amortization schedules, analysis and reconciliation of complex general ledger and bank accounts, variance explanations, etc.

 
Cash Management
 

Responsible for monitoring bank account balances, determination of cash position; short-term investment of excess cash concentration; general ledger entry; fund transfers and cash forecasting.  Maintains bank account signature records and participates in maintenance of bank relationships and armored car services.

 
Financial Planning and Analysis
 

Enhances functional area performance by assisting in the forecasting and budgeting process.  Completes special projects including product profitability, business segment analysis, overhead analysis, etc., with clearly defined objectives and assumptions.  Participates in maintaining, evaluating and updating financial and statistical data impacting the cost system.

 
Financial Reporting
 

Prepares journal entries, account reconciliations and participates in month-end procedures.  

 
Reserving and Reinsurance
 

Prepares and balances the insurance company Annual Statement supplemental schedules filed with the regulators.   Performs reinsurance accounting and/or loss reserving activities, including, but not limited to, journal entries, loss and expense reserve development, journal entries, analyzes and reconciles complex general ledger and explains variances.

 
Risk Management
 

Acquires data and prepares insurance applications, reviews policies and endorsements, processes invoices for payment and prepares premium allocation worksheets.  Analyzes claims incurred by company, tracks loss data, reports claims to appropriate carrier and prepares quarterly large loss reports for management.  Reviews loss prevention and safety reports from carriers or brokers, recommends methods for reducing loss to management and participates on safety committee.  Provides first line support to field for risk management issues.

Experience to include:

  • preparing complex bank account reconciliation and analysis
  • preparing account analysis and general ledger account reconciliations
  • balancing of ledgers to supporting systems
  • using automated reconciliation software
  • insurance accounting
 
Knowledge of:
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • AAA products and services
 
Financial Planning and Analysis

Experience to include:

  • collection, analysis and support of the forecast and budget processes
  • analysis of business segments within corporate environment
  • analysis of product profitability and pricing scenarios
  • application of various financial techniques to produce reports facilitating management decision making
 
Ability to:
  • prepare an in-depth analysis of statistical and financial data compared with peers, industry, corporate targets and history
  • conduct analysis that includes cost/benefit, investment alternatives and business case Project/Prototype analyses
 
 
Financial Reporting

Experience to include:

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • financial reporting
  • preparing journal entries
  • preparing account analysis and general ledger account reconciliations
  • using automated accounting systems
  • insurance accounting
  • applying GAAP

Knowledge of:
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Insurance Statutory Accounting Principles
  • general ledger
 
 
Reserving and Reinsurance

Experience in and/or College course work to include:

  • insurance and/or reinsurance accounting
  • preparing account analysis and general ledger account reconciliations
  • balancing ledgers to supporting systems
  • statutory financial statement preparation
 

Knowledge of/Experience in:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Insurance Statutory Accounting Principles
  • loss reserve development projections and techniques
  • property/casualty insurance industry
 

Risk Management

Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation or related designation

 
Experience to include:
  • analysis of corporate insurance and reinsurance policies
  • preparation of corporate insurance applications working with insurance/reinsurance brokers/carriers
  • compiling data and tracking of claims submitted to various brokers/carriers
 
Knowledge of:
  • corporate insurance rating and premium development
  • claim servicing and loss prevention standards
  • certificates of insurance issuance procedures
  • captive insurance company financial statements
  • Business Continuity program and process

 

Work Environment:

Works in a temperature controlled office environment. 


 

Qualifications

 

 

Required Qualifications (these are the minimum requirements to qualify):

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field.

 
Experience to include:
  • Preparing financial reports
  • Using automated accounting and/or management reporting systems
  • Preparing, analyzing and interpreting financial data and/or statistical data
  • Using various spreadsheet and word type software
 
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing
  • Research and analyze complex financial data
  • Analyze and problem solve
  • Organize and plan
  • Work independently
  • Participate on project teams
  • Work irregular or extended hours as required
  • Derive actionable conclusions from analyzing data and information
