A Brief Overview
Provides visual examinations, including those conducted to identify the presence of pathology. Conducts detection and differential diagnosis of abnormal visual, ocular and/or systematic conditions. Provides complete high quality optometric/vision care services.

Essential Functions

  • Provides treatment of the visual system within the scope of optometric licensure, including writing prescriptions for ophthalmic spectacles, contact lenses, orthoptics and non-optical aids. Provides additional specialized testing and therapy, as needed Maintains compliance with all current organizational, state and federal regulations pertaining to Optometry. Provides and assures that patients receive appropriate routine eye exams and urgent care, as well as other vision care that is appropriate in the care setting Assures that referrals are made in a timely manner to specialists or other providers when medically necessary Assures that the patient's treatment is monitored and coordinated Assures that the documentation of care as represented in the medical records meets established standards of quality Acts as a day-to-day resource to physicians and Clinic staff regarding vision/patient care issues. Reviews medical utilization data in concert with the management and staff physicians and participates in studies to develop cost benefit information for the primary care vision Clinic Works cooperatively with the other members of the Clinic management team to assure a smooth vision Clinic operation and on all patient care issues Assists in responding to patient concerns about care issues and works to solve problems and improve patient care Assists in the preparation, investigation, and follow-up of incident reports Develops vision care protocols, policies and procedures to assure compliance with accepted standards of quality Assists in the promotion of the vision/medical Clinic Provides coverage for after hour clinic calls (via Dial MD) in rotation with other providers Serves as first call for hospital on call coverage in conjuction with Clinical Service Chief (in rotation with other providers). Assists in eye related research, as needed Assists in teaching and mentoring optometric students Serves as clinic representative in providing presentations, attending speaking engagements, conferences, etc. in conjunction with Clinic Service Chi
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university in the school of Optometry Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in pediatrics Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current and valid state license as an Optometrist Required and
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required
