SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays a crucial role in providing prompt and effective mental health services to individuals in crisis.  This position works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to assess, intervene, and support individuals experiencing acute psychological distress.  Primary responsibilities include conducting rapid assessments, crisis intervention, short-term counseling, safety planning, and facilitating appropriate referrals for ongoing care. Educational requirements are very specific. Decision making, problem solving, and highly developed interpersonal skills are critical. This position works within a team environment with weekends/ nights as needed to staff a 24/7 center.

Compensation: between $54,000 and $68,316 per year (determined by total years of relevant experience)
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling
  • Two years or more experience
  • Nebraska licensed (LIMHP or LMHP) required; (provisional will be considered)
  • Valid driver’s license/ acceptable driving record

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Conduct rapid mental health assessments to determine the level of crisis and immediate intervention required.
  • Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling to individuals experiencing acute psychological distress.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop personalized safety plans and coping strategies.
  • Offer support and guidance to individuals in crisis and their families, promoting empowerment and resilience.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and peer support specialists.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, clinical supervision, and professional development activities.
  • Establishes an intervention plan, with client and treatment team, which specifies immediate treatment needs and follow-up.
  • Maintains relationships with law enforcement agencies, Emergency Medical Technicians, local crisis teams and other key community resources, as well as provide referrals to clients.
  • Ability to handle complex cases.
  • Is dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance.
  • Willing to work limited evenings/weekends, if needed.
  • Refers to other Heartland Family Service programs and other community services, as necessary either concurrent with services or for aftercare.
  • Is prompt and accurate in completing all required reports, statistics, and other requirements.
  • Always displays a courteous and caring attitude to the clientele, volunteers, and visitors of the Agency.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with program area staff, volunteers, and other Agency staff.
  • Abides by all specific program and Agency procedures, policies, and requirements.
  • Develops personal and program related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities including printed material and audio and/or visual media.
  • Performs other program related duties as assigned.
