Your Social Media Tech News Roundup: What You Need to Know (Part I)

Every once in a while we like to take the time to do a little check up on what is going on in the tech world.

As we’ve mentioned in the past, technology has done a lot to shape the way we run our businesses.

One area where this rings true is social media—and how much we use it to complete day-to-day tasks at the office. Social media is ever changing, so it’s good to keep up on how social media platforms are revising or updating themselves.

Here is some social media tech news we thought you might want to know and how it can affect you.

Take a look below:

Snapchat versus Facebook

When Snapchat first came on the scene, you probably didn’t expect it to become a pretty hefty competitor of the social media behemoth that is Facebook. Fast-forward to the present, however, and Snapchat is actually impacting how Facebook rethinks their platform.

The most recent Snapchat oriented update to the Facebook platform is their new app, Slingshot; it allows you to share your content with a group of friends quickly and all at once. We are not sure how this attempt will pan out – their others, including Poke and Paper didn’t fare so well – though Tech Crunch contributor, Jordan Crook, thinks it is a poor attempt by Facebook to win over the fervent Snapchat devotees.

While we aren’t ones to speculate, we don’t really see Snapchat taking over Facebook anytime soon. That being said, the social media giant definitely wants to squash that opportunity before it’s even a possibility (Zuckerberg reportedly made a three billion offer to buy it back in 2013). What we will say, however, is that Snapchat is definitely making an impact on Facebook and the rest of the social media world with ads even rolling out this week on the Snapchat’s platform by exclusive brands.

Still, there is no need to abandon Facebook just yet – they are, after all, still the most popular social media platform out there. So when it comes to using Facebook as a recruiting tool, you don’t want to abandon it just yet—rather, you want to make sure you are up to date on any changes with the platform, or new social media tools that might also be used for recruiting.

On Thursday, we’ll talk some more about social media tech news. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts by connecting with us on Facebook or Twitter. We’d love to hear from you!
