According to recent reports from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of women in the tech industry increased. From September 2012 to September 2013, the net change in employees in the computer industry was 60,000, while the net change in female employees was 36,000. Keep in mind that the data includes all types of jobs, not just tech jobs. Still, many companies in the tech industry are aware that women are underrepresented and are actively trying to hire more women. In the last year, for example, the hiring of women increased at Microsoft. Meanwhile, many community programs are focused on encouraging young women to explore IT career options.
