A Little Recognition Goes A Long Way

It’s Employee Appreciation Day. We know it seems like every other day is a holiday, but this one is actually extremely relevant and important. Recognizing the value employees bring to your organization is essential to employee satisfaction and retention. In order to retain the best workforce, your employees deserve appreciation year round.

In May of 2014, Quantum Workplace (Omaha, NE) released the findings of their 2014 Employee Recognition Trends Report. Pay increases and professional training top the list of employees’ preferences for recognition. One of the other important ways that employers and managers show value is through praise.

According to the report, “Almost 73 percent of all employees said they received the right amount of praise from direct managers, while only 63 percent said they received the right amount from senior leadership.” Employee appreciation doesn’t have to mean chocolates and gifts (although they are nice) one day in March. Most employees would actually prefer kind, reassuring words and a “thank you” for specific tasks done well throughout the year.
