A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the IT Systems Engineering Intern position in the IT Systems Engineering group. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role and will be given exposure to other parts of the business, including subject matter experts from a wide variety of divisions and professions. Valmont's internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership.

In this role, you will accomplish a variety of tasks, including managing and maintaining systems across the enterprise as well as assisting in the installation, upgrade, configuration, and administration of Server hardware, Virtualization solutions, and Operating systems. You will apply analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.

Software and hardware utilized in this role includes: all Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems, Linux Systems, Azure, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Enterprise Suite (Exchange), O365, Lenovo and Dell Hardware, Tanium End Point Manager, Microsoft Active Directory Federated Services, Microsoft Data Protection Manager, Microsoft Azure AD connect, Commvault Enterprise Data Management, Solarwinds Orion, Citrix Netscaler ADC, Nutanix AHV, Varonis, and VMWare ESX.

Essential Functions:

• Report to the Manager Systems Engineering
• Develop and maintain IT operational processes and tasks
• Provide technical support to end-users by troubleshooting hardware and software issues
• Perform ongoing maintenance operations, including installing or upgrading hardware or software
• Track and document all system problems, changes, and problem resolutions using the company trouble ticketing system
• Review, monitor, and manage project timelines and milestones
• Create required reports in response to business user needs
• Work in conjunction with other IT Shared Services groups Enterprise-wide to deploy and maintain end-user hardware and software

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

• Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or other relevant field
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Things You Will Learn:

• Virtualization technologies and Microsoft products in an enterprise level environment
• Implementation of Disaster Recovery solutions, TCP/IP protocol, Production Control disciplines, and Change Management methods
• Software and tool utilization, including Microsoft's Active Directory user/computer administration, Windows Server Update Services technologies/applications, and others
• Troubleshooting methods for both system and application issues
• Identification and replacement of components on computers and peripheral equipment

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

The working environment extends to both Valmont sites in North America as well as internationally where a PC requires installation, support or servicing. Travel, less than 5%, is expected to offsite locations for preparing computers, servers and other networking equipment for existing Valmont locations and new acquisitions. The employee is expected to utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and position, keyboard location and height, and appropriate use of wrist rests. This position requires manual and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and handle computer components. In addition, the position requires the ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds from a floor or table position using a proper lifting technique. The incumbent is expected to wear required PPE when working at manufacturing or distribution facilities, and meet all physical demands associated with wearing the required PPE and performing the work assigned.
