A Brief Summary of This Position:� 
This position is the Senior Manager - State Income Tax of a publicly traded, multi-national corporation. � The position has responsibility for the Companyâ��s state income tax compliance process including audits, planning, and M&A activity. � Developing and maintaining working relationships with business unit business partners is critical to the success of this position. � Also, this position will be responsible for managing work performed by external consultants. � � 

Essential Functions:� 
â�¢� �  � This position reports into the Vice President of Global Taxation
â�¢� �  � This role requires less occasional travel (domestically), including overnight stays
â�¢� �  � Flexible schedule with the ability to work in the office 5 days per week
â�¢� �  � Researching, developing, and recommending overall state income tax filing strategy to VP Global Taxation
â�¢� �  � Working closely with Director of State Tax â�� Sales/Use, Property, and Incentives
â�¢� �  � Performing matrixed supervisory role to Tax Accountant and Senior Tax Accountant related to state income tax. � Includes communicating clearly, problem resolution, annual performance review. � 
â�¢� �  � Managing Companyâ��s state and local income tax compliance process including analyzing information, making determination of appropriate tax position of specific items within the tax returns, and reviewing the work of Tax Accountant and Senior Tax Accountant with respect to state income tax compliance work
â�¢� �  � Utilizing technology to drive efficiencies throughout the state income tax compliance process
â�¢� �  � Determining areas of potential income tax refunds by keeping current on new case law as well as changes in tax laws
â�¢� �  � Participate in income tax related meetings with all levels of management including senior management. � This may include making presentations to senior management.
â�¢� �  � Participating in M&A activities including due diligence and integration work
â�¢� �  � Working directly with and coordinating the efforts of external tax service providers related to income tax compliance
â�¢� �  � Working directly with the Director of Federal Taxation to ensure proper accounting for state income taxes in accordance with ASC 740
â�¢� �  � Maintaining a basis of tax expertise on a continuous basis in order to fulfill job requirements� 
â�¢� �  � Analyzing financial data to determine the appropriate income tax position related to state and local areas and making recommendations to Vice President Global Taxation
â�¢� �  � Promoting companywide tax awareness and stressing the importance of compliance
â�¢� �  � Assist VP Global Taxation on special research projects
â�¢� �  � Managing all aspects of state income tax audits including documentation and research of tax laws

Other Important Details about the Role:� 
The incumbent will be responsible for managing the income tax preparation process and reviewing the Companyâ��s state and local income tax returns. � This process includes gathering information from divisional activities converting that information into a legal entity format, analyzing the information for accuracy, and developing and implementing tax strategies for minimizing tax burden. � Changes to tax laws, regulations, rulings, and court precedents must be incorporated into these returns which require constant monitoring of various tax research materials. �  Incumbent is in control of the level of risk that should be taken on a return with respect to specific issues.

In the event of an audit, incumbent is responsible for developing and presenting responses to examining agents. � In addition, incumbent is responsible for determining whether a full protest of the issue is warranted and assesses the associated risks. � Incumbent is authorized as a power of attorney for state and local income tax compliance for the Company and all its domestic subsidiaries. � Incumbent is responsible for responding on behalf of the Company when notices from various taxing jurisdictions are received.

The incumbent will participate in meetings held with the senior management team to recommend new tax strategies as well as analyze the impact of new tax legislation and the impact it will have on the Company. � This may include making presentations to senior management as well as working directly with external tax service providers.� 

Incumbent will delegate various activities to the tax staff personnel such as quarterly estimated tax payment calculations and extension request filings. � This requires the incumbent to clearly communicate the objectives and deadlines of the activities to the tax staff and to perform other supervisory skills. � Those skills include reviewing work product completed by the tax staff members, answering questions, and general growth and development of tax staff.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):� 
â�¢� �  � Preferred Bachelors with 7+ years of relevant experience or Associateâ��s Degree with 9+ years of relevant experience or 11+ years of relevant experience
â�¢� �  � Seven years of progressive state tax experience in private or public accounting, tax law, or with a governmental revenue department � 
â�¢� �  � CPA or advanced degree
â�¢� �  � Comprehensive experience with state income tax audits� 
â�¢� �  � Experience with US domestic mergers and acquisitions
â�¢� �  � Proficiency in state income taxation for multistate corporations
â�¢� �  � Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with adversarial tax authorities
â�¢� �  � Strong sense of business ethics, integrity and discretion
â�¢� �  � Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
â�¢� �  � Strong digital acumen
â�¢� �  � Supervisory experience

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
â�¢� �  � Experience with CSC Corptax compliance software
â�¢� �  � Experience with ASC 740 from a state income tax perspective
â�¢� �  � Experience with Alteryx and Power BI
â�¢� �  � Effective planning, research, communication skills, both written and oral
â�¢� �  � Effective and decisive under pressure
â�¢� �  � Energetic and self-motivated team player with ability to work effectively and cooperate with other teams

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:� 
Work is typically performed in an office setting. � The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. �  � Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. � Occasional travel requirements for this position. � The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. � The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. � Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. � Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.�
