A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for an engineering internship with the Global Solar division.  We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be responsible for assisting with projects involving our technology solutions for internal needs including but not limited to automation, APIs and integrations, prototype applications, and data science.

Valmontâ??s internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to the Director of Technology Product Development and has no direct reports or indirect reports
  • This role requires no travel
  • Flexible schedule M-F, remote work acceptable
  • Responsibilities include researching, organizing, and developing software and technical projects
  • Work with Microsoft stack and other software development tools as needed
  • Work with team leads in various technology groups throughout Valmont
  • Work alongside senior technical roles at Valmont for coaching, guidance and mentorship on project activities and deliverables
  • Participates and provides positive input during team meetings
  • Provide quality products, processes, and services to achieve company goals

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Junior or Senior level student in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Excellent computer skills to include all Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Project or similar)
  • Basic knowledge of software development and coding best practices
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion requiring minimum supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment subject to specific deadlines which must be met
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Cumulative Grade Point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater
  • Interest in software development and technology applications

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting.  The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings.    Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time.  No travel requirements for this position.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer.  The employee is occasionally required to move about the office.  Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
