A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Master Scheduler develops and manages the master production schedule in order to balance the customer demands and supply capacity. Schedule is segmented by daily, weekly and monthly buckets. Planning horizon for this position is 0 â?? 12 months. This Individual Contributor's responsibilities include planning and coordinating execution of the master production schedule by reviewing and releasing shop orders, inter-site orders, and supplier schedules according to the sales and operations plan. You will align resources with demand based on capacity planning and shop floor control principles. Master Scheduler responsibilities may include more than one production area or factory location. It is important to understand the needs of operational teams at each scheduled area to align production schedules for efficient use of resources. Position releases and expedites purchase orders and supplier scheduled orders according to existing strategy and previously negotiated prices. You will manage inventory stock planning, work-in-process inventory (WIP), and finished goods inventory. Reporting on production and supplier progress to goals is required. Creating and executing any required action plans to close gaps. Demonstration of the core values of the Valmont Way is also required.

Essential Functions:

  • You will report to the Senior Manager Planning Systems and have no direct reports
  • Flexible schedule however will need to be able to work onsite
  • Create schedules and communicate plan to important partners
  • Align schedules to support customer demand, key performance metrics, division guidance for planning horizons and S&OP guidance
  • Investigate material usage and availability for the master production schedule. Ensure material and component supply plans support the schedule.
  • Coordinate rejected material activities through the department. Ensure rework is scheduled and completed.
  • Reconcile supplier invoice discrepancies. Periodically review for compliance with agreed upon terms and prices.
  • Review ECN's (Engineering Change Notice) for new or change to existing materials. Coordinate transition to new material and manage inventory levels
  • Identify, negotiate, and resolve conflicts concerning material and capacity availability and order-promising integrity
  • Maintain scheduling and inventory parameters, such as lead-times, lot sizes, safety stocks, delivery times and order file data.
  • Create a level supply schedule that satisfies customer demand with optimum inventory levels and efficient resource use.
  • Assist demand management in setting priorities when demand outstrips the division's supply of products or the resources necessary to build the requested product.
  • Work with S&OP to understand competitive lead times. Seek ways to reduce internal and external lead times to achieve competitive lead times.
  • Produce shop schedules that have both validity (they exceed customer demands) and integrity (they can be accomplished by the shop)
  • Summarize daily and weekly master schedules for released and firm planned orders and compare these to the production plan to ensure that the master schedule is within S&OP policy
  • Contribute to a positive work environment and coordinate with other planning team members to align processes and goals

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in a relevant field OR Associate's degree with 3+ years of experience OR 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
  • APICS CPIM, CFPIM, SCOR-P or CSCP certification, or complete certification within 18 months of hire date
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and planning techniques
  • Strong attention to detail and quality of work
  • Ability to aggregate, organize and process, facts, data and other information to define a problem and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field
  • Prior experience setting up and planning in a mixed model environment including make to stock, engineer to order, and configure to order methodologies
  • Demonstrated abilities in visual scheduling and inventory optimization
  • Prior experience with master scheduling using methodologies for make to order and configure to order business
  • Leads by example and earns the respect and trust of co-workers, customer, and other team members
  • Sets aggressive targets, accepts consequences of actions, and holds others accountable
  • Thinks globally about the entire business and committed to supporting the needs and goals of an integrated global organization
  • An understanding of priorities and balances short-term and long-term requirements

  • Knowledge of mathematics and data analysis
  • Knowledge of Lean planning, scheduling, and Kanban tools

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Includes visits to both indoor and outdoor locations during all seasons of the year. Normal working conditions will be in an office environment with above shared site visits. Safety glasses with side shields and safety shoes with metatarsal protection will be required to enter certain areas, as well as hearing protection. Rare travel required. Good working conditions with an absence of disagreeable elements for all practical purposes. Light physical work where the major portion of the job is accomplished in a sitting position with occasional standing and walking. While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to reach with hands and arms. You will also be required to frequently use hands and fingers at the keyboard. In addition, you may occasionally be required to bend or twist. You must occasionally lift, pull or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
