Valmont Industries, Inc., a leading global provider of engineered products and services for infrastructure development and irrigation equipment and services for agriculture, has an immediate opening for a Cost Accountant in the accounting department. This position supports the accounting and financial reporting functions for two sites in concert with Divisional and Corporate accounting policies and procedures. The position supports the accounting, reporting and analysis for the Plymouth, IN and Salem, OR manufacturing plants, including inventory valuation and control, shop variance analysis, financial/management reporting and closing activities.
Analyze periodic manufacturing variances including purchase cost, material usage and overhead variances.
Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the inventory cycle count programs and activities.
Prepare accurate, timely financial reports using Excel and Hyperion that compare and analyze current results with budgeted results and future forecast.
Effectively communicate the results of the cost analysis performed with reliable conclusions that management can use to implement more effective operational strategies.
Assist with cost and inventory report generation for operations management.
Work with the site personnel to gather data and explanations to support spend and productivity analysis.
Assist with month-end closing, including gross margin analysis, variance review and associated financial adjustments.
Complete and summarize weekly forecast updates.
Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze standards to actual cost information.
Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job.
Other Important Details about the Role
Reporting to the Finance Director for NA Operations, this position has responsibility for supporting the review and analysis of financial performance of the Plymouth, Indiana and Salem, Oregon sites. This includes the completion of reports, charges and diagrams that provide a basis for comparison and evaluation. This position is also responsibility for providing ad hoc analysis to support financial forecasts, internal management reporting, benchmarking and monitoring of key cost indicators. The person in this role will partner with the site personnel to understand and explain performance variances and trends. Other responsibilities include timely and accurate completion of the monthly book close process and the weekly forecasts. This position has no direct reports.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate
Preferred Bachelors with 3+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 5+ years relevant experience or 7+ years of relevant experience
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint
Ability to pay attention to detail and follow instructions
Ability to effectively analyze data
Very strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and under high pressure
Experience in a wide range of business tasks, perhaps at a small/mid-size business
Passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
Working knowledge of accounting software: IFS, QAD, or Sage 100
Certified Public Accountant
Certified Internal Auditor license
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.
