The Irrigation Specialist position is responsible for providing agricultural (ag) services to growers in the areas of:

  • Irrigation scheduling and water budgeting
  • In-field water management strategies
  • In-field soil moisture monitoring and data interpretation
  • Variable rate irrigation scheduling design, prescriptions and adjustments
  • Troubleshooting technical issues

In addition the Irrigation Specialist is expected to:

  • Conduct field inspections for soil moisture content and verify water distribution effectiveness
  • Assist with the development of a methodology to implement grower soil moisture programs and make recommendations regarding the selection of soil moisture equipment and monitoring software
  • Serve as a member of the company-wide soil and agronomy team supporting CES's water quality/reuse efforts for existing ag customers and national accounts and provide practical water solutions based on science for soil and agronomic challenges
  • Service existing accounts to achieve excellent customer satisfaction
  • Play a key role in the expansion of ag services by developing new business and establishing customers which could include attending trade shows, providing technical presentations, etc.
  • Manage annual subscriptions for irrigation scheduling, soil moisture, and other in-field services

The person in this position is expected to enjoy meeting new people and inspire confidence with clients; work with internal and external customers; foster a strong team working environment; provide effective, personal ongoing interaction with existing and prospective clients; be a self-starter; able to work without immediate supervision; and have a desire to pursue professional agricultural consulting within the farming community.

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Associate Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Irrigation, Soil Science, or related area
  • One year of previous experience in irrigation scheduling, irrigation management, or other relevant experience
  • Basic knowledge of soils and crops
  • The ability to solve problems and make decisions effectively
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Ability to write well using correct grammar and syntax in an organized and comprehensive manner
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to colleagues, clients, university and government staff
  • Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple, simultaneous priorities
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Preferred Qualifications (Optional):

  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, or other field related to production agriculture
  • Three years of previous experience providing consulting for crop and soil management and monitoring
  • Experience with regulations pertaining to irrigation and nutrient management and reporting
  • Crop Advisor certification
  • Experience or training in soil mapping, irrigation and drainage, environmental sampling, analysis, monitoring and reporting, soil fertility, and/or nutrient cycling
  • The ability to read, write, and speak in both Spanish and English
  • Business management and technical staff supervision experience
