Working under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Plant Manager, and within the guidelines of established procedures, the Galvanizing Material Handler supports the galvanizing activities by loading, moving and unloading materials within the plant. The incumbent unloads various types of materials and purchased parts in a safe and timely manner using appropriate equipment and methods. This position may also load trucks of fabricated parts being sent to other plants. This material handler opens containers varying from small containers to fifty-five gallon drums as well as loads/unloads materials onto/or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand. The Galvanizing Material Handler transports materials from storage or work sites to designated areas. Lifting attachments need to be secured to materials before transporting load to destination or signaling crane or hoisting operator to move the load to the designated area. The various galvanized products are padded correctly to ensure Valmont's high quality standards. Operator uses an air gun to blow off the zinc needles from all galvanized products. Occasionally other methods of removing the excess zinc are used. The units of material moved or handled are then counted, weighed or otherwise recorded on a daily production sheet. When completed the material is tagged or labeled before stacking or assembling the material together to be banded in bundles. Another important responsibility of the Galvanizing Material Handler is to maintain good housekeeping in the assigned area which includes cleanup of all galvanized parts, always exercising precautions in accordance with Valmont safety procedures. The Galvanizing Material Handler may be required to assist with functions in other areas or departments.
