A Brief Summary of This Position: This Supervisory position has the primary responsibility for the development, maintenance, support and implementation of the drafting system and standards for the Utility Divisions Steel Transmission Engineering Group Valley. The end product is the creation of drafting/CAD drawings for fabricated steel structures used primarily for the support of electric power transmission, substation and distribution lines. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Valley drafting group which includes daily production drawings, interpretation of customer specifications and order requirements, and coordination and support of the other engineering, sales and manufacturing departments in Valley and other sites. This position encounters a wide variety of problems ranging from drafting practice, valuation of system development options, training development and evaluation, to human relations and conflict resolution. The supervision and guidance received by this person relates largely to overall objectives, critical issues and new concepts. This person consults with the Senior Drafting Manager, Site Drafting Manager, Site Drafting Supervisors, site Managers of Engineering concerning overall Divisional goals and objectives, unusual problems, and system development needs. Essential Functions: This position reports to the Senior Drafting Manager and has 15 direct reports This role requires up to 15 % travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays Direct supervision of the Valley drafting group Support developing, implementing, and maintaining Utility Division Drafting Systems and Standards, as well as computer graphics development Deployment and support of these Drafting Systems and Standards to all Divisional engineering sites Development and implementation of uniform system training and proficiency Provide direct subordinates with the direction and support to insure company and divisional goals are achieved The production of all production drawings and related data required for individual customer orders within the product line Supports the development, maintenance and implementation of the drafting system and standards throughout the Utility Divisions Steel Transmission Engineering Group. Establishes criteria and analysis methods used in the drafting of tubular steel transmission structures. Establishes drafting and documentation practices required. Provides a uniform system and standards for training and proficiency evaluation, directional guidance and motivation for the Valley drafting group. Provides for the personnel development and proficiency of performance to promote professional development and to assure project quality. Staffs, develops and controls transmission structure Valley drafting group to best achieve goals and objectives. Reviews performance of subordinates and recommends appropriate action. Develops and recommends manpower to meet sales forecast and goals for the transmission structure business. Establishes work procedures and guidelines to facilitate flow and accuracy of work, and assigns job schedules and priorities to meet requirements of sales, manufacturing and the customer. Evaluates shop field problem reports and initiates corrective action to prevent recurrence of problems. Maintains good relationships with customers, vendors, outside sources of technical assistance, etc. Emphasizes responsiveness to customer needs. Works with manufacturing and quality assurance to establish and maintain acceptable tolerances and standards of workmanship. Promotes and maintains a productive working relationship within the department and with all other departments. Maintains a neat, business-like environment within the work area including minimizing distractions from radio noise, conversations, etc. Other Important Details about the Role: The incumbent must possess a high level of technical competence in drafting/CAD practices and in particular the Utility CAD program, CATO. This person must have a good understanding of the end use of the product. He/she must have basic knowledge of fabrication and welding procedures, and the manufacturing processes used in the product, as well as quality assurance requirements and methods. This position must have the supervisory skill necessary to lead technical subordinates and motivate them in order to affect a high degree of productivity. The activities of this position are intertwined with the functions of many different people of diverse functions. This person must possess good communication skills in order to illustrate ideas to people from non-technical disciplines in laymans terms as well as technical people in precise terms. Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Preferred Bachelors with 6+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 8+ years relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience Through comprehension of the steel Divisional drafting system and standards Ability to understand and analyze engineering details, project plans, and specifications, and effectively communicate this information in a logical fashion and gain consensus for actions Must demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to bring others to a common goal in a team environment Ability to work and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment Demonstrate problem-solving skills and attention to detail Demonstrate excellence with interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Acceptable prior performance and attendance record Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications: Drafting and supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment Working Environment and Physical Efforts: Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Travel is required to visit site locations. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.
