Job Summary

We are in the process of filling open positions for the combined company following CenturyLink's acquisition of Level 3 Communications. All qualified candidates who express interest by submitting an application to an open posting will be considered. However, based on business needs, preference may be given to internal applicants on certain positions. We still welcome, and encourage, all application submissions while we continue our integration process.  Internal applicants are current, active CenturyLink employees, including Level 3 employees who have transitioned to CenturyLink as part of the acquisition.

The Manager is a member of the CenturyLink Investment Management (CIM) Asset Allocation/401(k) Team.  This Team is responsible for the analysis of the strategic asset allocations for the CenturyLink employee benefit trusts and the design, management and analysis of the 401(k) investment program offered to participants.  This position works closely with the Director with a primary focus on the 401(k) investment program. 


Job Description

Specific responsibilities include:


  • Work within the Asset Allocation/401(k) Team to research and analyze strategic portfolios to meet plan or trust objectives, with specific focus on the development and analysis of the three-tired 401(k) investment program offered to plan participants. 
  • Target Date Fund strategic asset allocation and ongoing management:  The Manager analyzes the external TDF consultant's recommended equity/fixed income glide path and also contributes to the development and evaluation of the more detailed asset allocation and the ongoing rebalancing of the portfolios.
  • Develop various communications to Plan participants, the CIM Investment Committee and CIM Board.  The Manager may attend and make presentations at meetings of industry groups. 
  • Serve as liaison with the 401(k) recordkeeper in regard to all aspects of the investment program.  Oversight of participant investment advice and managed account services provided by the recordkeeper.
  • Monitor 401(k) service providers.
  • Work with other CIM teams in regard to the strategies, implementation and operations of the 401(k) investment program.
  • Maintain productive relationships with HR and Legal departments regarding 401(k) issues.  The Manager is expected to be knowledgeable about existing and proposed regulations and court rulings that are relevant to 401(k) plans.


The Manager may utilize complex models to evaluate existing strategies and investment options as well as potential new asset class strategies. The Manager is expected to stay abreast of 401(k) industry developments and best practices and be informed of long term asset class expectations and current market and economic conditions. This can be accomplished by reviewing industry research from various sources and developing productive relationships with representatives from peer organizations, investment management firms and service providers. 


Minimum requirements:

  • Graduate degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, or statistics.
  • A minimum of eight years of overall experience.
  • A minimum of three years of applicable investment experience.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation or candidacy.
  • Unquestionable integrity and the highest ethical standards


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with 401(k) plans
  • An understanding of investment theory and practice and institutional investment programs.
  • Familiarity with multiple asset classes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to a broad range of audiences.
  • Excellent analytical skills (quantitative and qualitative) and critical thinking ability.
  • A team oriented and collegial style, i.e., the ability to work constructively with a broad variety of colleagues and contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Strategic and independent thinker with a passion for investing.


Masters or Equivalent in Finance
