Job Summary

The INROADS Corporate Security Intern will be a part of the Information Security and/or Cyber Defense Team that is responsible for delivering security requirements and coordinating information security risk assessments to ensure compliance with corporate policy / standards and monitoring, detecting and responding to global threats. The intern will assist engineers with assessing security risks associated with new applications and products; develop security requirements based on the Information Security Policy; coordinate vulnerability assessments; review and operate enterprise-wide security platforms in order to identify, mitigate and remediate vulnerabilities; investigate cyber events using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems; and/or use various network forensic tools to investigate, contain, mitigate, and remediate cyber incidents. 

The successful candidate will have broad technical knowledge of current and emerging cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies used both within the corporate infrastructure and in delivering customer-facing services.  Additionally, the candidate must be able to work as a team member to consult with internal clients on security topics, providing designs, reviews, and recommendations, and have excellent analytical and problem solving skills related to networking, operating systems, programming, and/or malware analysis.

Job Description

  • Assess potential risks with new applications and products and provide security requirements and recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Review and recommend new security policy, standards, best practices, and system configuration standards.
  • Identify and respond to security incidents, alerts and vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor and suggest enhancements for threat detection mechanisms.
  • Configure SIEM log collection for event logs.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled at a 4-year accredited College or University. 
  • Preferred majors Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Assurance. 
  • Must be enrolled in INROADS Network Program 
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Broad technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft or UNIX (including Linux or other UNIX derivatives) operating system administration/support experience.
  • Experience with application development and/or source code review experience in C/C++, C#, VB.NET, ASP, PHP, PERL, Python, or Java.
  • Experience with network and/or firewall engineering, administration, design and implementation experience.
  • Experience or exposure to SIEM (Such as ArcSight, Q1 Labs, Splunk), IDS / IPS (such as Snort, IBM Proventia, McAfee IDS), host based Anti-Virus, or similar products experience.
