Job Overview:

The Senior Engineer Federal supports ECS/IPSS in providing architecture and systems engineering support to mitigate cyber intrusions onto CenturyLink's ISP network in support of US Government networks. This position will involve architecting and engineering ISP-based cyber security intrusion detection / intrusion prevention technologies. Position may require briefing senior government officials on the status of CenturyLink Government's ISP and cyber security capabilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Development of the solution approach and solution, addressing Cyber Security system architectures and integration with supporting operations support systems (OSS) and business support systems (BSS).
  • Analyzes, develops, recommends, implements and supports innovative, cost effective IPS/IDS protection systems
  • Evaluates and recommends future technologies and methodologies that will enhance future capabilities
  • Designs requirements-based technical solutions in support of CenturyLink Cyber Security programs, projects, solutions and offerings, and assists with program start-up, transition and transformation of the solution or offering design into production.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of technology and seeks opportunities to benefit CenturyLink's customers.
  • Recommends optimized solutions to support current and long range planning and collaborates with project team leads in the selection, recommendation and approvals of tools and technologies to improve efficiencies, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Conducts presentations to customers to educate or obtain approvals on design concepts and technology recommendations.
  • Supports due diligence activities including site surveys, design, design review, bill of materials creation, statement of work creation, vendor negotiation and coordination, proposal generation, and proposal delivery.
  • Provides architectural and design support including customer briefings.
  • Provide hands on Tier 3 support.
  • Identify new network security technologies
  • Develop and support security Research and Development concepts
  • Assist in the formulation of new programs
  • Assess proposed solutions in a system of systems environment to include impact on network and application layer efficiencies
  • Construct measurable milestones and cyber security technology roadmaps
  • Assist in laboratory demonstrations and evaluations
  • Evaluate emerging security products and implementations developed by outside vendors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in computer network operations, network access and protection techniques and technologies, software coding, encryption and cross domain solutions
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience, or a strong interest in, the cyber security field, with emphasis on network protection technologies and techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in system architecture and engineering disciplines.
  • Specific technical knowledge of enterprise level networking and network security.
  • Understanding of mobile networking in a military environment and the impact of integrating security solutions
  • Proven track record in the communications, networking and/or security arenas
  • Ability to support shift work to cover gaps as the mission requires
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen
  • Clearance: Active DoD Top Secret
