Description

A candidate is being sought in the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The research of this laboratory is focused on the development of an effective AIDS vaccine in a nonhuman primate model of human HIV infection using molecular biology, virology, immunology, systems biology, proteomic and genomic tools to understand host-virus dynamics and prevention strategies of HIV/AIDS and immunology of infectious diseases in general. We are looking for self-motivated individual to work mainly in understanding HIV/SIV immunological mechanisms/cure using non-human primate (NHP) models as well as COVID-19 research. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, self-driven, passion for research and interested to contribute to existing programs as well as to develop their own research program. â?¢ Running experiments and developing, adapting, and implementing novel research techniques examining the impact of dopamine on HIV entry. These experiments will involve the isolation and culture of primary human macrophages and T-cells, and the infection of these cells with different types of HIV. Through understanding of Virology and Immunological assays. Prepare different types of viral stocks, including full length, pseudo typed, and chimeric HIV. Attend and present data at seminars, journal clubs, and domestic / international meetings. Assist in preparation of grant proposals. Prepare publications, abstracts, and oral / poster presentations. Be a good lab citizen (help maintain equipment, assist other lab members, help to maintain a positive, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere). Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications and contingent upon receipt of funding. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. with specialty in human immunology, virology, or pharmacology. Preference with a degree in DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine). Extensive practical hands-on experience with small and large animals including non-human primates is desired. Prior experience in infectious disease research, immunology, and molecular biology and published work in peer-reviewed journals. Willingness and ability to work with live HIV and human blood products under BSL2+, and SARS-CoV-2 in BSL3+ settings. Ability to perform basic cell and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, ELISA, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, or qRT-PCR. Working experience/analysis using flow cytometry/CyTOF preferred. Strong, proactive work ethic and friendly, cooperative demeanor. Superior problem-solving skills. Additional Desired Qualification The preferred candidate will possess the following Will have a track record of scientific accomplishments as evidenced by a very strong publication record. An energetic and dedicated candidate who can write manuscripts, creating graphs / tables suitable for peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and able to turn ideas into grants. Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as a part of a team, effectively plan and organize work activities, and prioritize task completion to meet schedules and deadlines. Strong experience working as part of a cross-functional team Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
