Job Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is seeking a faculty Therapeutic Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist to provide clinical physics supports in all aspects at UNMC. Primary responsibility includes performing quality assurance (QA) to radiation therapy equipment, treatment planning and delivery of special procedures (e.g., SRS/SBRT and brachytherapy), and conducting patient chart checks. Radiation Oncology at UNMC is a vibrant, growing department equipped with five modern linear accelerators (two Varian TrueBeams and one Edge at the main campus and two Siemens linacs at satellite hospitals) and one Elekta Flexitron HDR unit. Available advanced techniques include respiratory gating and image-guided radiotherapy using OBI/Cone-beam CT, Calypso, CT on rails, and OSMS. Treatment planning is mainly performed in Varian Eclipse (for external beam therapy) and on Elekta Oncentra (for brachytherapy). Varian Aria is our Recording and Verification system. UNMC offers a broad range of special procedures including VMAT, SRS/SBRT, TBI/TSE, IORT, and HDR/LDR brachytherapy. The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art integrated clinical and research facility just opened in June 2017, houses the department at the main campus and three new Varian linacs with the latest technology advancement. This medical physicist will be proving medical physics coverage associated with an advanced department under the guidance of the Director of Physics. Some teaching and research responsibilities are anticipated. The department also has a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Residency program with two resident slots.
