Streck is seeking candidates for a research and development summer intern to work with our scientific professionals on computational biology approaches for biomedical applications that support new product development. This position will primarily work within the scope of our new product development group. Primary responsibilities will include development of analytical methods and model systems that facilitate interpretation of data collected in Streck’s blood collection tubes. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and apply genomic, bioinformatic, and data visualization techniques in an industry environment.

 

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Organize bioinformatics and sequencing data in the lab and develop methods for data management and analysis of high throughput sequencing data from next-generation sequencing technologies 
  • The individual will be responsible for downloading large Fastq, BAM and/or Fasta files for analyses. Must have experience using existing software tools and modifying R scripts. Should be able to generate figures, and some statistical analyses. The lab routinely uses barcoding primers for multiplex NGS runs which require demultiplexing and analyses.
  • Design, develop and maintain robust analysis workflows and software pipelines, as well as custom scripts, to support the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data.
  • Provide biological interpretation of analysis results and present analysis results in a clear and concise manner, to scientific audiences.
  • Work as a team player across multidisciplinary teams to support ongoing project efforts.
  • Analysis of metadata towards identification of trends associated with disease

 

Requirements include:

  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Bioinformatics, Genetics or Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Experience with scripting languages such as R or Python
  • Experience with analysis of microbial and/or human genomes
  • Experience working with web-based visualization platforms such as D3. js or RShiny
  • Experience with SQL or other relational database queries
  • Experience with NGS analysis tools and methodologies including modification and tuning of software tools and analysis approaches
  • Experience providing analysis support for sequence data production
  • Interest and ability exploring and using new Technologies, Software, and programming languages.
  • Script and software development experience to support NGS data analysis
