Job Description

The QC Instrument Service Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, repair and validation for all QC instruments. Responsible for backing up Instrument Technicians in the daily start-up, shutdown, routine maintenance and cleaning of all QC instruments and for other duties assigned by department manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Troubleshoot and repair instruments in the Instrument Laboratory of minor to moderate complexity ensuring an acceptable level of instrument performance is achieved and with assistance from vendor technical resources as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair, as needed, all returned OEM instruments.
  • Interpret instrument performance data (QC) used as an indicator of instrument optimization and take corrective action when required.
  • Perform installations, preventative maintenance, validation, and reliability updates for all QC instruments.
  • Coordinate visits from the instrument manufacturer field service representatives to perform repairs and maintenance that cannot be performed in house.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance visits from field service representatives from instrument manufacturer for instruments that are under service contracts.
  • Ensure that instrument is functioning properly after instrument problem/repairs have been resolved by running precision, calibration and other appropriate testing.
  • Perform instrument specification adjustments including; gain setting adjustment, calibrations, sensitivities, and standardization.
  • Assist with instrument startup and shutdown as necessary.
  • Take appropriate corrective action with instrumentation to correct shifts or trends identified by the review of startup quality control data.
  • Perform incoming inspection and testing on OEM instruments in coordination with QC Instrument Technicians.
  • Inspect and approve incoming OEM parts and components in coordination with the Materials Inspection Department.
  • Provide customer service for all lab users. Assist with questions, training, troubleshooting of issues they may have with an instrument or software.
  • Ensure that instrument software is updated to the newest and most appropriate versions. Work with management to obtain the correct software.
  • Anticipate potential problems and effectively participate in problem analysis of instrumentation, including providing recommendations for corrective action and executing corrective actions.
  • Maintain the lab in a clean and safe working condition.
  • Ensure compliance with all departmental and company safety procedures and regulations.
  • Report instrument problems and status updates to the appropriate personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by Quality Control Lab Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE/TRAINING REQUIRED TO PERFORM THIS JOB):

  1. A technical degree (2 -4 years) in science, electronics, mechanics or other related field.
  2. Minimum of five years experience working on computer boards, electrical devices or laboratory instrumentation.
