Re-Rating Analyst

Physicians Mutual is hiring for a full time Re-Rating Analyst in our Product Managment area. The selected candidate will help to compile and analyze product experience and to recommend appropriate rate action. Analyzes and interprets regulations involving filing requirements and rate increases. Drafts actuarial memorandums, addendums, supplements and certifications required for filings. Prepares rate justification exhibits. Files documents with the State Insurance Departments. Presents and negotiates Company’s position by phone or written correspondence. Compiles and formats special state information as requested by State Insurance Department. Documents all activity and communicates status and results. Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of miscellaneous reports required by State Insurance Departments, the National Association of Insurance Commissioner (NAIC), or America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). 

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience is required.
  • 4 to 6 years’ experience with the Company’s health products or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience analyzing, preparing and documenting rate filings.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel and Word.
  • Thorough understanding of available premium and claim data.
  • Strong analytical skills and mathematical aptitude.
  • Strong knowledge of inflationary insurance products, actuarial concepts, and filing requirements.
  • Ability to interpret filing regulations and make decisions. 
  • Ability to exercise judgment regarding acceptability of certain rate actions, balancing Company objectives and State Insurance Department views.
  • Ability to recognize the potential impact of rate increase decisions on Company profits.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with self-confidence and assurance necessary for negotiations inside and outside the Company to assure approval of rate increases.   
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to work with a number of state and product filings with overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to work with other departments in team environment.
  • Self-motivated; works with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and filing systems for state approvals.
