Job Description

General Summary, Purpose and Expectations of Internship:

Internship assists in bridging the gap between the academic environment and a future work environment.  The intern will apply what has been learned during coursework (theory, skill development, professionalism, etc.) to the work environment.  The intern will gain a better understanding of our corporate environment’s management and technical skills, communication techniques and decision-making processes through hands-on work experience. 


The Advanced Analytics team is responsible for analytical support of the

business areas in the Marketing, Finance, and Merchandising departments. The

Advanced Analytics Intern is responsible for supporting the statistical analysis and model building, data validation, data visualization, data mining and documentation involved in determining answers to business questions and quantifying the ROI on programs and testing.


Orientation and Training

The intern will be offered a brief orientation about our organization.  Information about the job duties will be provided to the intern from the management team of the department upon the start of the internship.  The opportunity to attend meetings and brainstorming sessions may be available to the intern. 


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Essential Functions

  1. Utilizes customer database reporting tools to extract and manipulate data for

statistical analysis

  1. Assists with predictive modeling, hypothesis testing, machine learning, and

simulation building

  1. Analyzes trends and patterns in customer behavior and the results of A/B

testing and communicates findings orally and visually

  1. Works with internal and external resources on requirements gathering and

data loads

  1. Assists in project assignments, progress summaries, research and analysis
  2. Provides detailed reports to the Advanced Analytics Supervisor detailing

accomplishments, duties, impact on company and lessons learned at the

conclusion of internship

  1. May answer and make phone calls, respond to questions and send written

material as appropriate

  1. May compose, type and print reports, general letters, spreadsheets, e-mails,

and memoranda from rough drafts or general instructions, involving the

assembly of data from computer or other record sources

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of data measurement and data structures
  • Creative thinker able to solve analytic problems
  • Proficient written and oral communications skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to work independently
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point or similar




  • Must be currently enrolled in Graduate degree program in a quantitative field, such as Statistics, Mathematics, Finance or Economics.
  • Prefer experience with:
  • Statistical and data reporting tools such as SAS, R, or Python
  • Relational database query language such as SQL


Schedule / Other Qualifications and Physical Requirements

  • The job will require 40 hours per week; the days of the week will be determined by the intern and department management



Equipment Utilization

Utilizes a PC, printer, phone, fax, copier, and other general office equipment
