Responsibilities
 

Responsible for assisting in the evaluation, design, project management and construction management of modifications and capital improvements for OPPD electrical generation facilities to assure safe, economical and reliable operation.  Works closely with OPPD generation facility staff, other departments within OPPD, outside vendors, and/or contractors to acquire information, resolve problems and implement solutions.


1. Provide engineering design services for OPPD electrical generating facilities to assure safe, economical and reliable operation.
* Understand OPPD policies and Leadership Framework principles and practices.
* Develop broad knowledge to research, define, and solve minor design related problems.
* Develop, evaluate and compare potential solutions for minor design related problems.
* Provide technical evaluations, engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, bid evaluations, contracts, installation packages, operating procedures, system descriptions and test procedures for multiple projects of small to moderate size including portions of major projects.
* Perform technical reviews and evaluations of design documents prepared by others in the department or from outside organizations to insure technical accuracy.
* Perform design reviews for design documents provided by others in the department or outside organizations to ensure OPPD and governmental policies and regulations are satisfied.
* Collaboratively use judgement to adapt methods for non-routine aspects of assigned work.
* Perform and/or lead troubleshooting activities on systems or programs.

2. Provide project management services to assure economic, quality and timely completion of multiple assigned projects.
* Assist in providing budget information, economic evaluations, business case documentation, and schedule development for assigned projects.
* Coordinate with Supply Chain Management to initiate and complete purchase of materials necessary for installation of project related systems and/or equipment using OPPD work management systems.
* Assist in providing regular updates on project progress and input project information into OPPD work management systems.
* Close out and archive information from completed projects in accordance with OPPD procedures and document retention policies.

3. Provide construction management services to assure quality installation of new systems and/or equipment for OPPD electrical generating facilities.
* Coordinate with Supply Chain Management to interpret and implement construction contracts.
* Assist in managing and providing oversight of contractors and construction activities for compliance with contract documents and OPPD policies and procedures for assigned projects.
* Assist in managing construction schedules, coordinate work with other internal and/or external groups, and report progress for assigned projects.

Qualifications

 

Required: 
* Four (4) year Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical/Civil-Structural/Electrical Engineering or other Engineering degree related to power generation (ABET accredited degree) OR Professional Engineering Registration
* A minimum of two (2) years engineering work experience ¿cooperative education or internship experience may be credited for experience duration
* General engineering knowledge and working knowledge of utility industry
* Effective oral and written communication skills with ability summarize analysis and provide detailed conclusions
* Ability to work as part of a team, exercise flexibility and take responsibility for assigned work
* Possess and maintain a valid driver's license

Desired: 
* Successfully completed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT/FE Certification)
* Engineering-related experience at a power generating facility or in a related field
* Advanced Degree (MBA or MS ¿ qualifies for up to two (2) years' experience)

Minimum: $86,386 
Midpoint: $107,982
