Senior Engineer (Grid Operations Support)

Responsibilities

 

OPPD's Grid Operations Department is looking for an engineer who is a technically competent, critical thinking individual who has experience performing engineering studies and develops electronic tools and procedures that assure the reliable operation of OPPD's electric distribution systems.  This includes development of and integration with Outage and Distribution Management Systems, the Energy Management System, GIS, Customer Care & Billing, and other operations and field support platforms.

Specific accountabilities for the position includes:

  1. Provide operational support engineering for operational tools, applications, and/or platforms and the integrations between them to ensure the adequate and reliable operation of the Districts distribution, and customer owned alternate energy source facilities.
  2. Integrate with District distribution automation efforts including Smart Grid, Distribution Automation, and other grid technologies to the benefit of Distribution Operations.
  3. Facilitate review of system operations and analysis of system outages and disturbances through integration with grid technology systems to ensure reliable operation of the distribution grid.
  4. Provide operational engineering for OMS, DMS, and Distribution Automation addition/upgrade projects.
  5. Provide timely and accurate information on operating conditions and situations to internal and external customers.
  6. Review work process for improved operating efficiencies and increased customer service.
  7. Track, analyze, and correct distribution outage data (OMS) on an ongoing basis for reporting, inquiry response, and to make process recommendations to reduce customer outage frequency and duration.
  8. Support the Department's mission in areas of Compliance.
  9. Keep abreast of the latest technological advances to ensure that automation, integration, and control systems meet the Districts needs
  10. Maintain 24¿hour availability for technical and professional assistance, storm restoration, and emergency response.  Participate in 24x7 after hour's duty supervisor rotation to direct remedial actions.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Five (5) experience related to distribution automated systems (i.e. OMS, DMS, GIS, Etc.) Masters degree may be considered for up to two years of experience.
  • NERC Operator Certification or Registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Nebraska
  • Valid driver license

Desired:

  • Bachelor Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution with an emphasis in power systems studies.
  • Experience related to distribution automated systems (i.e. OMS, DMS, GIS, Etc.)
  • Experienced with converged IT/OT environments.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with co-workers, vendors, and customers (internal and external).
  • Self-starting and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ownership and accountability to provide timely, accurate results and openness to improvement and change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
