Responsibilities

The Associate Database Administrator works under the direct supervision of the Manager, Database Services. The Associate Database Administrator provides first level database support and configuration of the company's database systems and tools. This position is also responsible for the maintenance and full life cycle management of the company's Business Intelligence (BI) software stack. The Associate Database Administrator will collaborate across technology teams to manage the delivery and operation of OPPD's business intelligence solutions. These activities include installing and upgrading software, production support, troubleshooting incidents, system performance and reliability optimization, security configurations, compliance assurance, governance of metadata applied to the tools and technology road mapping.

Database Administration:

Monitor database system performance and capacity:
- Availability
- Database system and OS specifications including CPU/RAM performance and I/O network throughput
- Database size and growth over time
- Recovery time
- Query response time
Adapt database solutions to new requirements under the supervision of the Manager, Database Services
Provide production support and respond to off-hour calls for data storage related problems in a timely manner
Perform routine maintenance activities for Tableau Server, Cognos, and Informatica Power center, including software upgrades and hot fixes/patches
Provide production support and respond to BI and Data Platform related incidents in a timely manner

BI Solution Delivery Support:

Assist BI Developers, Data Analysts and Database Administrators in daily operations of the BI and Data Platform environment
Participate in quality assurance and user acceptance testing efforts
Participate in creating and maintaining technical specifications and documentation
Contribute to business partner training for BI systems
Collaborate with other Business Technology teams to ensure integrity, security, quality and availability of data solution delivery
Ensure that current and future business intelligence systems are aligned with the architectural standards including functional, non-functional and technical requirements
Create rules within the tools to ensure data consistency, reliability and data integrity
Governance of tool usage and security compliance

Planning and Team Work Management:

Actively participate in standup, backlog grooming, retrospective meeting
Provide high level and detailed estimates for work items
Track work progress and provide status updates
Collaborate with colleagues from across the business unit and team members to support the work management process

Qualifications

Required

BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Management or a combination of education and work experience that provides the necessary skills to perform the essential job functions
Basic understanding of Database Administration or working knowledge of Business Intelligence tools
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem management skills
Self-starter with a strong desire to work in a team oriented environment but the flexibility to deliver results independently

Desired

Experience with SQL and familiarity T-SQL and/or PL/SQL, source control and code management
Experience with Linux bash or Windows PowerShell
Experience with Tableau or Cognos Administration
Experience with data visualization, dashboards and reporting
Experience with IBM Cognos, Informatica PowerCenter, Oracle and SQL Server database
Experience in the electric power utility industry

Salary Grade: S3

Minimum: $73,483

Maximum: $110,225
