Job Description



The Business Intelligence Solution Architect (BI Solution Architect) is an expert in business intelligence strategies and technologies comprising common functions such as data integration, data storage, data modelling, data warehousing, data mining, data analysis/analytics, data visualization and big data. The BI Solution Architect understands architectural frameworks/methodologies and relationships between information management systems and business processes. The primary responsibility of the position will be analyzing complex business requirements along with OPPD's overall strategy in order to develop self-service and big data business intelligence solutions. Provide technical and architectural guidance to projects and teams ensuring that new initiatives enable effective analytics and reporting

  1. Shapes the architecture based on business need and technology efficiency.
  • Ensures standards and directional adherence across the various technical domains.
  • Develops and maintain technology roadmaps within specific domains. Applies deep knowledge of specific domains and associated business context.
  • Provide cross project architectural governance that includes identifying relevant strategy, policy, and roadmaps adherence.
  • Provides strategic consultation specific to: innovation, concept development, emerging technology, and best practices.
  • Partners with IT engineers to develop solutions and design standards


  1. Leads the development of long-term capabilities from conception to implementation.
  • Model and assess the domains baseline architecture and associated services
  • Work with internal and external technology experts to ascertain system functional capacity, constraints and support lifecycles. Evaluate and make recommendations to ensure technology investments are optimized.
  • Proactively identify unnecessary complexity and potential failure points, assist with creating plans to reduce or eliminate where appropriate. 
  1. Responsible for participating in the Architectural Governance/Review Boards 
  • Ensuring projects, procurement, and methods remain compliant with the approved direction.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with technology teams and business partners to facilitate improved alignment of technology initiatives to business strategies




  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in business intelligence solutions architecture and at least one other IT discipline (application development, infrastructure or other)
  • Expert knowledge in Data Modeling and Data Warehousing.
  • Expert knowledge in database programming including stored procedures using PL/SQL or T-SQL.
  • Strong understanding of common BI data functions, including data integration, data storage, data modelling, data mining, data visualization, and data analytics.
  • Strong understanding of Big Data technology stack and methodologies, including data streaming and data lake solutions.
  • Strong SQL skills including the ability to write complex queries for prototyping and performance improvement.
  • Familiar with programming languages such as Java, C#, Perl or R
  • Familiar with managed data services on cloud platforms such as MS Azure and AWS.
  • Ability to produce, enhance, and drive architecture blueprints, roadmaps and associated principles
  • Ability to effectively partner with cyber security management to ensure the application of best practices to all designs and solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present at technical and management levels
  • Ability to participate in innovation activities such as ideation, prototype development, and real world application evaluations
  • Maintain an open and candid working relationship with team and immediate supervisor
  • Ability to  œtranslate between business and technology
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation with strong leadership skills.
  • Able to produce clear documentation at a technical and business level
  • Results oriented, self-motivated, resourceful team player
  • Must be a team player with the ability to share knowledge and develop peers for the overall benefit of the team and organization


  • Master's Degree in Management Information Systems, Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of Machine Learning concepts, including algorithms, statistical models and artificial intelligence.
  • Understanding and experience with either TOGAF and/or Zachman framework.
  • Broad knowledge of business continuity including high availability, disaster recovery, and risk management.
  • Basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.
