Responsibilities

 

The Omaha Public Power District is seeking a candidate for the position of Enterprise Risk Analyst. The Enterprise Risks Analyst will report to OPPD's Director of Risk Management and will be responsible for facilitating and coordinating OPPD's Enterprise Risk Management (œERM) Program. The ERM Program seeks to implement a risk identification, mitigation, and an active risk management program by utilizing a bottom-up (department level) approach to identify risks and mitigation plans with guidance from OPPD's risk management staff, Risk Management Committees and the Utility's Management Team.

The ERM Program has adopted an approach that focuses on empowering the operating departments to manage their risks by providing them with the tools and capabilities to identify, assess and prioritize, develop response plans and to monitor and report risk trends up to senior management. Ultimately, the ERM Program strives to help management develop effective business strategies. This approach enables management to consider the highest ranked risks across the organization when prioritizing budget and capital allocations to reduce the likelihood and severity of risks which may affect the achievement of the OPPD's mission, vision, and strategic goals.

  1. Work with OPPD's Director of Risk Management to coordinate and administer the District's Enterprise Risk Management program
  • Collaborate and provide leadership to subject matter experts throughout the District to identify, assess, manage, and monitor significant business risks and opportunities
  • Reviews risk management activities to ensure appropriate risk policies, procedures, and practices are developed and followed to manage risk exposures.
  • Regularly evaluates effectiveness of risk management processes.  Constantly seeks, researches, and implements best practices.  Conduct analysis to identify potential emerging risks, insurance gaps, and changing claims trends.
  • Support the implementation and integration of Fusion risk management software
  1. Operate as business partner with each functional department and track and assist in their development of:
  • Risk documentation and timely entry into the District's Enterprise Risk Register
  • Development of risk monitoring capabilities that utilize key risk indicators (KRIs), key risk performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics which can be used to monitor trends for business risks
  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of existing and proposed risk mitigating activities utilized to address business risks
  1. Develop and assist in the implementation of efficient and effective ERM risk dashboards for monitoring changes in risk trends, identify potential emerging risks, and facilitate meaningful and consistent utility management
  2. Prepare materials and facilitate risk workshops/working sessions/ERM risk committees, successfully identify and navigate the competing needs of risk owners, committee members, and key stakeholders, and manage milestones and key deliverables to meet the ERM program timeline
  3. Promote risk culture and awareness, assist in the development of communication and literacy of risk throughout the organizations.
  4. Effectively partner with other risk management functions (Insurance, Claims, and Commodity Risk Management) as well as other 2nd and 3rd line of defense functions (Governance, Compliance, and Internal Audit).

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Risk Management, Finance, Quantitative Analysis or Business Administration or a combination of education and work experience that provides the necessary skills to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must periodically update knowledge through formal training to assure current knowledge of relevant practices.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the field of Enterprise Risk Management or similar discipline
  • Strong knowledge of ERM and risk control methods, internal control standards such as COSO and/or ISO 31000 frameworks
  • Experience working with qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods, risk models, and financial risk analysis techniques
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other statistical and database applications such as Tableau or similar risk data warehouse and visualization software applications
  • Excellent communication skills for effective reporting, presentations and group facilitation
  • Strong ability to analyze large amounts of data, despite imperfect or ambiguous inputs at times, and effectively communicate key points to management
  • Ability to build and manage successful professional relationships
  • Proven ability to work both independently and a member of various special project teams, manage and execute multiple projects within required timelines and expectations

Desired:

  • Previous utility industry experience, energy/commodity market expertise, or a history showcasing a deep curiosity and ability to quickly learn and develop a broad knowledge base in a complex and changing business and industry.
  • Attainment of a nationally recognized, professional risk management certification (i.e. ARM or RIMS-CRMP), or will otherwise be required to complete certification within 2 years of employment.
  • Previous experience with Fusion Risk Management software or similar risk management or nationally recognized GRC tool.
