Responsibilities

 

The Director of Engineering is a critical leadership position responsible for delivering Energy Delivery system designs that are safe, reliable, cost effective, regulatory compliant, and operationally excellent. This role oversees engineering related functions for transmission, substation, protection, automation, distribution, geospatial and some asset information systems.  Additional responsibilities include the oversight of contracted construction of large grid related projects, critical support of the design and engineering of all power plant protection systems and high voltage equipment, as well as ensuring that innovations in technology and engineering practices are continually researched and integrated into OPPD's engineering practices.  

Build and maintain a competent/capable team of staff in alignment with OPPD's Accountable Management System (AMS) guidelines.

 

Accountable to develop and implement plans (1-2 years in scope) in alignment with 3-5 year BU strategy to deliver desired outputs/assigned KAs of Engineering Division. Develop the overall operational plan, policy and goals for assigned function(s) is primarily accountable for operation and results.

Direct and manage the Engineering Division in a safe, constructible, operational, maintainable, cost effective, reliable, and regulatory compliant way to serve our customer owners. 

  • Provide critical engineering support of all generation protection systems and high voltage equipment. 
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable FERC/NERC and other regulatory requirements.

Oversee the engineering, procurement, construction, and records/drawings management of all large/complex Transmission, Substation, and Distribution projects    to ensure completion within budget, schedules, and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversees Engineering for transmission, substation, protection, automation, distribution, distributed generation, and grid metering systems.  Responsible for contracted construction of large transmission and substation projects.
  • Support economic development efforts for business growth.
  • Oversees division engineering support for transmission and distribution operations including power quality. 
  • Perform as project sponsor for large/complex Energy Delivery projects.

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical preferred) and 8 or more years of Transmission, Substation and Distribution experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to simplify and communicate complex topics
  • Demonstrated well-developed technical and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with local, state and federal rules and regulations governing engineering, construction, and operating practices
  • A valid driver's license

Desired:

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.).  Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nebraska
