Senior Product Specialist (B2B Programs)

Job Description



This position coordinates the development and implementation of commercial and industrial programs and services from concept to launch to ongoing lifecycle management. Incumbent will seek new value-adding products for our business class customers, by targeted customer segments, and liaise with marketing and key accounts on the promotion and awareness of these programs.  Program types can vary from energy efficiency, energy monitoring or other related product useful for the business facility.

Accountable for the leadership and execution of all activities related to product lifecycle management. Typically assigned to most complex products and programs

  • Identify market opportunities and define product vision and strategy. Develop and maintain an 18-month roadmap of established priorities
  • Manages products through their entire life cycle and supports decisions regarding enhancements throughout the lifecycle until product end of life or re-innovation
  • Understand customer needs, gather product requirements and provide simple interpretation
  • Write functional specifications including requirements and detailed user cases and storyboards for new product features
  • Coordinate the analysis that drives product pricing, bundling and performance metrics
  • Oversee the product performance reporting throughout lifecycle including product strategy, product planning and issue prioritization
  • Leads business case development for enhancements or new products

Develop and maintain subject matter expertise with regard to assigned products and programs.

  • Keep abreast of the evolving needs of customers, perceived value/willingness to pay, and competitor analytics offers and solutions
  • Be market facing and internal SME on the product you support
  • Develop knowledge of assigned product specifics/metrics (costs to build and maintain, delivery costs, client's willingness to pay, market size, etc.) to determine product priorities, areas of focus, resource allocation, and product portfolio success
  • Develop a deep understanding of how assigned products and solutions fulfill customer needs. Represent the voice of the customer
  • Assess the market landscape to identify product gaps, threats, and strategic opportunities

Facilitate and lead the identification, selection and ongoing relationship management of contracted vendors.

  • Support RFI processes hardware/software requirements
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of mutual contracts, agreements and/or memorandums of understanding
  • Monitor product operations for adherence to agreed upon terms between OPPD and the vendor

Collaborate effectively across the business units and OPPD stakeholders to ensure product designs align with overarching business strategies and product/program objectives (Revenue/Savings // Customer Support // Corporate Strategy //  Etc¦).

  • Responsible for product line performance with developed targets on participation, revenue, cost & margin. Identifies and influences market trends and opportunities to achieve goals
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders including product marketing, customer experience and design, business technology, and OPPD business leads to drive product and solution strategy, roadmaps, and execution
  • Collaborate closely with product marketing to guide and develop the ideal content and competitive positioning
  • Work closely with product marketing team and corporate communications to effectively communicate upcoming releases (what, when, how to use) to internal and external teams (end users, channel partners, internal support teams)

Engage closely with the engineering team(s) to help determine the best technical implementation methods as well as a reasonable implementation schedule




  • 5-7 or more years' experience in a product management, product development or related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong business analysis and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent consumer facing products
  • Proven ability to innovate and come up with ideas to help drive the product forward


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; comfortable presenting ideas and concepts
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Excellent project management skills, delivery oriented
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task
  • Capable of thinking tactically and strategically
  • Strong ˜doer' mentality; ability to drive ideas from concept to completion
  • Certifications in Product Management from Product Development Management Association, Association of International Product Marketing & Management or related organization
