Job Description:
Provide education and support people affected by diabetes while helping them to better understand and manage their condition. Encourage self-management that promotes the achievement of individualized behavioral and treatment goals that optimize health outcomes in persons with diabetes across the health care continuum.
Diabetes Educator:
Required Qualifications:
* Minimum of two year clinical experience required.
* Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field required unless candidate meets all of the factors to qualify for Exception A or Exception B*.
* *Exception details: EXCEPTION A: Candidate must meet all of the following: (1) has current experience directly applicable to position; (2) is deemed the best candidate for the position; and (3) written approval to hire a candidate without a BSN is received from the hiring Director, Nursing Practice Professional Development & Informatics Executive Director and Chief Nursing Officer.
* If a candidate is hired without a BSN after meeting these criteria, the candidate must either have 30 years of experience directly applicable to the position or sign a written agreement consenting to obtain a BSN within four years from his/her hire date.
* EXCEPTION B: Candidate must meet all of the following: (1) is currently employed by Nebraska Medicine, or is eligible for rehire into a benefit eligible employment status at Nebraska Medicine within 364 days of the previous termination date; (2) hired by Nebraska Medicine before November 21, 2014, or hired by an entity acquired by Nebraska Medicine if the employee was hired before the acquisition; (3) has experience directly applicable to position; and (4) currently hold a Registered Nursing License.
* Excellent teaching and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
* Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and work with minimal direction required.
* Public speaking ability required.
* Basic knowledge in office computer tools such as Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook required.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
* Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist through the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Registered dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration required (if applicable).
* Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska or current compact state license (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience providing diabetic education preferred.
* Masters degree in Nursing (MSN), Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field degree preferred.
Certified Diabetes Educator:
Required Qualifications:
* Minimum of two years clinical experience to include educating patients on diabetes required.
* Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Nutrition/Dietetics, Exercise Physiology or closely related field required unless candidate meets all of the factors to qualify for Exception A or Exception B*.
* Completion of Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) required.
* If applicable, completion of a CADE accredited Dietetic Internship Program/Coordinated Program in Dietetics required.
* 1,000 hours of diabetes self-management education and completed and maintained active CDE certification (or equivalent) from a recognized diabetes certification body required.
* Excellent teaching and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
* Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork and work with minimal direction required.
* Public speaking ability required.
* Basic knowledge in office computer tools such as Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook required.
