Medical Lab Scientist Lead - Hematopathology

Position Highlights:

Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as a Lead Medical Lab Scientist on the main campus. This role will be great for someone that has a passion for the lab and caring for the patients we serve.

This role will interact with all service lines, in particular flow cytometry/oncology.

The hematopathology department performs, but is not limited to, the following activities:

Performs accessioning and sample processing
Performs flow cytometric testing

Performs bone marrow differential cell counts.
Helps with administrative duties including writing and maintaining procedures, completing proficiency testing, and maintaining supply inventory as needed.
Prepares reagent stock and working solutions.
Oversee new validations and verifications for new equipment and new tests.

Various additional duties performed by the lead are as follows:

Use comprehensive knowledge to accurately perform and evaluate highly complex laboratory testing in an efficient manner.
Provide technical support and staff work direction for assigned department.
Demonstrate behavioral skills that contribute to a productive work environment, teamwork, and provide excellent customer service.
Support continuous quality improvement of laboratory services and provide feedback to staff on performance.

Shift:

Full Time and Benefits Eligible / 1.0 FTE
First shift hourly
Rotating weekend shift, approximately every 4-6th weekend.
On-Call responsibility approximately every 4-6 weeks

Support continuous quality improvement of laboratory services and provide feedback to staff on performance.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of three years progressive, successful experience in clinical laboratory medicine in the assigned discipline required.

Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Bachelor's degree with specified number of science courses required for MLS certification required.

Certified medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists MLS(ASCP),

or American Medical Technologist (AMT) required. Equivalent certifications include Medical Technologist (MT (ASCP)) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist certified by the National Credentialing Agency (CLS (NCA)) prior to 2004 or International certification and qualification: International Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCPi) required.

Individuals who were certified beginning January 1, 2004 maintaining their certification by participation in the ASCP ---Board of Certification (BOC) Certification Maintenance Program (ASCP)CM required.

Effective communication skills, initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in biology, microbiology, virology, molecular biology, or other laboratory related science
