Serves as a financial steward for the patient and the organization. Primary focus area is hospital inpatient to support discharge planning in partnership with Case Management and Social Work and complex outpatient areas. Role requires the ability to formulate a financial strategy for the patient and the organization to ensure patient clinical needs and organizational financial needs are met. Face to face and bedside patient contact required to facilitate completion of applications for coverage through Medicaid, Marketplace and/or disability, monitor status, and assist patients with scheduling of hearings or other items as required. Strategy requires interpretation of managed care contracts, expertise in routine third party reimbursement, knowledge of medical necessity, research requirements, appeal processes and/or Medicare and Medicaid rules. Complete cost estimates and follow guidelines associated with pre-payment process. Analyzes payments and payment accuracy comparing billed charges to payment and expected reimbursement for commercial, invoice and governmental payers. Position is required to be onsite.

Required Qualifications:

The following combination of education/experience will be considered:

Six years healthcare and/or insurance/third party reimbursement AND High School Degree/GED required

Four years healthcare and/or insurance/third party reimbursement AND Associate's degree in business administration, healthcare or related field required

Two years healthcare and/or insurance/third party reimbursement AND Bachelors degree in business administration, healthcare or related field required

Knowledge of hospital and/or professional revenue cycle processes required.
Ability to work with diverse customer base through effective verbal and written communication required.

Multi-tasking and problem solving abilities required.

Knowledge of computer based programs including Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

Strong organizational skills with aptitude for detail oriented work required.
Ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute with 95% accuracy required.
Certification through hospital or professional revenue cycle organization required or obtained within 6 months.
Obtain and maintain Notary Commission (paid for by the department)
Obtain and maintain Certified Marketplace Counselor (completed within the department)

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with both hospital and physician revenue cycle with billing and Epic systems preferred.
Membership in hospital or professional revenue cycle preferred.
