Nebraska Medicine is seeking a talented individual to join us as a Refractive Surgery Technician or Ophthalmology Technician!

We are looking for an technician who is:

  • Reliable, team oriented, as well as able to work independently.
  • Willing to be cross-trained in patient work ups, surgical assisting and laser operations for laser vision correction.
  • Has a high degree of professionalism, excellent communication, listening skills and multitasking skills.
  • Able to work up potential surgery patients in a friendly and efficient manner.

Job Duties- Refractive Surgery Technician

Provide administrative, technical and quality patient care support to an ophthalmologist/optometrist in a clinical setting. Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing relevant to refractive surgery. Assist surgeon and operate lasers in refractive surgery.

Provide administrative, technical and quality patient care support to an ophthalmologist/optometrist in a clinical setting.



Required Qualifications: Refractive Surgery Technician

  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician/Technologist course OR two years of experience in an ophthalmic/optometry clinical position required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program OR certification as an Ophthalmic Surgical Assistant OR refractive surgery experience or equivalent training/scrub experience required.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS with skills assessment or approved BLS) upon completion of orientation required.

Preferred Qualifications: Refractive Surgery Technician

  • Certification as an ophthalmic assistant, technician or technologist preferred.
  • Certification as an ophthalmic surgical assistant OR completion of a surgical technologist program preferred.
  • Knowledge of various ophthalmic surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies/materials preferred.
  • Prior refractive or minor surgery experience preferred.
  • Refractive laser certification preferred.

Required Qualifications: Ophthalmology Technician

  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician/Technologist course OR three years of experience in an ophthalmic office required.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS with skills assessment or approved BLS) required.


Preferred Qualifications: Ophthalmology Technician

  • Graduate of an ophthalmic assistant, technician, or technologist program preferred.
  • Certification as an ophthalmic assistant, technician or technologist required within eighteen months of hire or transfer. Once certification is achieved it is required to be maintained.
