Mutual of Omahas Data Guardians team serves to enable Data Governance, Privacy and Security through the enterprise. We partner with business and technology teams to effectively utilize data assets while enabling technologies protecting that data.

The Guardians mission is to enabling tools and processes with Data Lineage (Impact Analysis), Metadata management, Data Quality, and are working with the new Data Train in delivery of Privacy by Design.

  • Provide technical support and enable users of Alation, ASG Data lineage, Data Quality (tool being selected), Dynamic Data Masking (tool being selected)
  • As projects require collaborate on delivery of solutions with the Privacy, Office, I/S Security, Data ART, and application and business teams through the enterprise.
  • Independently performs the following in one of more areas of responsibility:
  • Uses models as a starting point for designing and developing technologies that enable new or enhance existing business capabilities.
  • Evaluates options; performs tradeoff and cost benefit analyses.

  • Designs, builds and manages complex hardware and/or software systems over their life cycles. Sample system domains include but are not limited to: Operating Systems, Transaction Managers (i.e. CICS, IMS), Middleware, Hardware, Storage, Virtual Infrastructure, and Workstation Infrastructure.
  • Maintains immediate technical currency. Performs operational and tactical planning. Formulates and articulates short to mid-term technical vision. Delivers an exceptional developer experience to our engineers, with a focus on self-service using modern approaches.
  • Collaborates with engineering leadership, product teams and other engineering teams, to uncover pain points and opportunities to accelerate delivery.
  • Provides Systems Life Cycle Management; monitors system utilization and performance and conducts system calibration and tuning to ensure system is stable and operating at desired efficiency.
  • Resolves persistent system issues surfaced by technical support teams with proven ability to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of issues.
  • Investigates new system solutions to enhance service delivery experience through innovative experiments or Proofs of Concept.


  • Researches, designs, builds, optimizes and maintains reliable, efficient and accessible data systems, data pipelines, machine learning pipelines, and/or models. Can independently support the analytic and/or operational use of data.
  • Aligns closely with Enterprise partners in data science, architecture, governance, infrastructure, and security to apply standards and optimize production environments and practices.
  • Enables efficient use of data assets via proactive advice & coaching with supported business units.
  • Collaborates with business owners to optimize data collection, storage and usage to maximize the value of information within supported systems.
  • Translates business needs into data architecture solutions, designing and implementing in production environments within supported data systems.
  • Implements data orchestration pipelines, data sourcing, cleansing, augmentation and quality control processes within supported data systems.
  • Deploys basic machine learning models and applications to production in partnership with business units.
  • Develops, tests and integrates new data features and functionality as defined by the product owners and business teams.

  • Previous experience in application development (legacy/contemporary), Data Management (legacy/contemporary)
  • Experience in any of these technologies will be valuable to the team: COBOL, Java, .NET, Python, SQL, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, Informatica, AWS, Alation, ASG Becubic/Rochade, Metadata Management Toolsets, Data Quality Toolsets
  • Additional valuable experience includes enabling Data Governance and Privacy


  • Has strong technical domain skills and knowledge; performs moderately complex to complex activities without guidance.
  • Has strong skills in writing and debugging scripts/code for building and managing domain.
  • Has proven experience creating technical & non-technical documentation for production systems and to support end-user training.


  • Has strong experience in traditional data technologies/methodologies (RDBMS, SQL, ETL/ELT, traditional data architectures) and/or emerging data science technologies/methodologies (data science, programming languages, distributed systems, machine learning, cloud platform technology).
  • Has strong experience in analyzing data systems for grain, relationship, context, and impact to connected systems, to develop optimal pipelines that meet functional business requirements.
  • Has strong experience developing and documenting technology recommendations, vendor assessments, and designing complex data system interdependencies.
  • Is able to maintain data quality through systematic approaches and methodologies (e.g. MDM) within supported data systems.

  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $111,000
