The Commercial Real Estate Loan Closer is responsible for the closing of commercial real estate loan investments for the insurance company balance sheet. Contributes to the overall success of the commercial mortgage loan department and programs through sound real estate investments.


  • Ensures an efficient closing experience for sponsor clients.
  • Ensures all closing processes and procedures comply with Investment Management policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides recommendations to closing manager on the loan closing strategy and processes that align with industry best practices.
  • Ensures an efficient closing experience for sponsor clients.
  • Coordinates, communicates and collaborates with the internal and external business partners on loan closing activities for new commercial real estate loan investments which may include, the origination team, internal and external counsel, mortgage banking firms, the sponsor business and legal team, any third party report or document providers to ensure loans close within the established time frame.
  • Interfaces with in house counsel to resolve certain legal matters and assists in satisfying requirements for legal review.
  • Manages closing checklist and ensures commitment and application requirements are satisfied prior to loan closing and funding.
  • Collaborates with the loan origination team to ensure business related closing items are completed and documented according to requirements in loan documentation.
  • Reviews and approves closing settlement statements, escrow instructions and other documentation as required.
  • Partners and collaborates with internal and external counsel, title companies and Asset Administration to support the loan closings and meet funding and wiring requirements.
  • Collaborates with Asset Administration to resolve issues with respect to closed loans and provides information to facilitate boarding of closed loans.
  • Continues to develop in knowledge and expertise, contributes to the expansion of the team's loan closing skills and knowledge; attends seminars and continuing education classes; completes professionally-recognized designations; participates in professional and industry organizations.


  • Knowledge and experience in closing commercial real estate loans; 1-5 years of experience in commercial real estate loan closing with commercial real estate lender, title company, commercial real estate attorney or law firm as a real estate paralegal.
  • Knowledge and experience in loan closing resolution and related legal matters.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and utilize significant data to make sound business decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, time sensitive environment and manage multiple transactions simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail; ability to proactively manage the processes and activities of the transaction.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, within a team and across multiple internal and external business areas.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and consultative skills.
  • Ability to utilize personal computer applications to include but not limited to proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Ability to effectively interact with corporate officials, internal and external business partners/leaders, real estate industry and community leaders.
  • Ability to maintain and support professional business environment.

  • Paralegal certificate.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing organizational documents, title, survey, and zoning reports.
  • Skilled in reviewing and interpreting UCC, Federal and State Tax Lien, Bankruptcy and Judgement search results and requesting further information as needed.
  • A general understanding of commercial loan documents and leases, estoppels and subordination agreements.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of OFAC searches and insurance certificates a plus.
