Job Description

Service Account Specialists in the Group Policy Services department at Mutual of Omaha contribute to the retention of group premium income through servicing client needs. Performs a variety of complex and sensitive policyowner service functions, while ensuring efficient, effective, and high-quality customer service for the policyholders, brokers, and group office personnel. Employees in this job are required to exercise independent judgment on customer service issues. Service Account Specialists spend 80% or more of their day on the phone with policyholders, brokers, and group offices.

*Training will be a minimum of 6 weeks, Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

*This job posting is reflective of the Client Representative essential functions, qualifications, and physical requirements. The SR Client Representative level has variable essential functions, qualifications and physical requirements. Competency and skill set will determine level of placement within the posted job family.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages phone queue of incoming calls and initiates outgoing calls for existing group policyholders, brokers and/or field offices. Efficiently uses multiple on-line resources to answer group policyholder questions relating to reporting inquiries, enrollment and billing questions, and tracking down missing implementation information all while striving for first call resolution.
  • Efficiently and accurately documents policyholder requests including written correspondence to the back office as well as follow-up correspondence to the policyholder.
  • Remains abreast of policy provisions as well as state and federal legislation.
  • Investigates and responds to questions and issues.
  • This position requires extensive or prolonged typing/keyboarding.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong customer service skills to include, excellent relationship management & listening skills
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Planning & organizational skills with demonstrated success in establishing priorities, managing multiple assignments concurrently and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced dynamic environment & make timely decisions
  • Creative, adaptable and flexible
  • Effective team skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Group insurance experience is strongly preferred
  • Bachelors degree
  • Strong background in contract language
  • Seasoned knowledge of group insurance concepts and all group product lines
  • Operation and its interrelationships, including insurance accounting practices, systems, technology and related federal and state regulations
