Job Summary:

Independently performs the technical duties within the Cath Lab including limited patient care to patients undergoing invasive cardiovascular procedures and assisting the medical staff and manager in the care and diagnosis of the patient experiencing cardiac pathologies.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Maintains working knowledge of procedures and equipment used in the Cath Lab by performing procedures, calibrating and participating in QCI of equipment, attending in-services, orientation and asking questions to ensure quality patient care and optimum efficiency for the department.(E)

  • Maintains familiarity with the following procedures: coronary angiography, cardiac catheterization, insertion of intra-aortic balloon pump, temporary pacing, ventriculography, aortography, measurement of cardiac output, atrial pacing, permanent/ICD insertion and peripheral studies by being able to set up for and complete the procedure in a timely and effective fashion.
  • Anticipates and responds to patient and physician needs during procedures in a timely fashion.
  • Understands expected outcomes and patient response to procedures based upon appropriate delivery of care.
  • Set up, calibrate and perform daily QCI on all equipment in the cath lab based upon appropriate policy and procedure.

Executes proper scrub technique by adhering to principles of sterile technique in preparing/manipulating disposable equipment to minimize risk of infection to the patient, minimize cost, and assist the cardiologist during invasive cardiology procedures. (E)

  • Mastery of basic principles of sterile technique as evidenced by setting up sterile trays and handling equipment without contamination.
  • Maintains knowledge of and properly selects and prepares all sterile equipment needed for procedures.
  • Cleans and prepares equipment for sterilization based upon appropriate standards as measured by supplies that fail the sterilization process.

Accurately monitors and measures hemodynamic information to ensure quality care and diagnosis of the patient through vigilant monitoring. Attends in-services and orientation and continues self study as needed.

  • Accurately sets up, calibrates and operates the hemodynamic equipment in the Cath Lab per policy and procedure.
  • Provides accurate and complete report of procedure for physician and patient record.
  • Attends in-services and meeting as required and documented in minutes and in-service record.

Manages digital images by proper utilization of cine producing equipment before, during, and after the procedure to produce high quality diagnostic images that assist the cardiologist in the diagnosis of cardiac and peripheral disease.

  • Practices accepted and proper techniques of radiographic exposure and understands cardiac and peripheral anatomy to consistently obtain the correct images as evidenced by the quality of the diagnostic images.
  • Performs daily QCI of equipment and documents information per policy and procedure.
  • Successfully utilizes digital subtraction when appropriate.
  • Accurately uses LV analysis and coronary stenosis programs to aid physician in diagnosis of cardiac and peripheral disease.

Executes departmental functions by performing various duties not directly related to patient care to ensure customer satisfaction and efficient department function.

  • Accurately schedules patients in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Accurately generates appropriate documentation and uses computerized billing system.
  • Cleans and adequately stocks lab supplies in the lab, maintains supply inventory and rotates supplies in a timely fashion.
  • Distributes films and records to appropriate locations, retrieves requested films and records from the file system and storage, and arranges for the delivery of films or records in a timely fashion.
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment malfunctions in timely fashion.

Safety Initiative - Complies with MFH safety policies and procedures and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), etc.)

  • Performs job duties in a manner consistent with organization and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Completes departmental safety requirements, i.e. Blitz, departmental in-services, etc, on an annual basis.


 

Schedule:

Per Diem.......Hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 4:30pm.........Minimum of 2 shifts per month

Job Description:

Job Requirements

Education

  • Associate's degree from an approved American Registry of Radiology Technologist (AART) School of Radiology Technology required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.


License/Certifications

  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Vascular (RVT) preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Current Medical Radiographer license from Nebraska Department of Health required.


Experience

  • Minimum 2 years Cath Lab Radiology Tech experience required.


Skills

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) Interpretation required.
  • Hemodynamic monitoring skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

Physical

  • Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs). Examples Nurse, LPN's, and physical therapists.


Environmental

  • Located in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Examples: patient care providers and laboratory technicians.


Hazards

  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Category 1: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials.
  • Is subject to working in a radiation producing environment, or working with radioactive materials.
