- Conduct all aspects of sleep diagnostic testing.
- Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D) required
- 3 to 6 months experience in sleep testing is preferred.
- Registered Polysomnographic Tech (RPSGT) required at the time of hire or within 12 months of hire if currently a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
- Polysomnographic Technologist (PSGT) license by the State of Iowa required.
- Good understanding of all aspects of sleep diagnostic testing.
- Ability to perform multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT), maintenance of wakefulness testing (MWT), and scoring polysomnograms.

Gather and Analyze Patient Information.
- Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet patient specific needs (Physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedures, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
- Completes and verifies documentation.
- Explains pre-testing, testing, and post testing procedures to the patient.
Prepares and calibrates equipment for testing.
- Determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary, to equipment.
- Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
- Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary. Performs positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
- Follows procedural protocols such as MSLT, MWT, Parasomnia studies, positive Airway pressure, oxygen titration.
- Performs data acquisition while monitoring.
- Documents Routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and significant events in order to facilitate scoring.
Polysomnopgraphic record scoring.
- Scores sleep/wake stages according to guidelines.
- Scores clinical events according to protocols.
- Generates accurate reports for physician review.
Polysomnopgraphic physician review.
- Facilitates communication to pulmnologists for interpretation.
Maintains supply inventory.
- Maintains supply orders as needed.
Essential Functions II
Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
