      • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D) required

    • Experience
      • Minimum of 3 years experience in tumor registry.

    • License/Certifications
      • Certification as a tumor registrar by NCRA with CEU's current preferred

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Experience in computer use and statistical calculations and interpretation.
      • Good communication skills and substantive knowledge to provide in-service seminars to medical records and tumor registry staff on coding and abstracting rules.

  • Essential Job Functions
    • Essential Functions I
      • Performs ongoing validation of data submitted to the Nebraska Cancer Registry to assure the accuracy and completeness of the information as outlined in work plan by re-abstracting 5% of submitted cases using the North American Association of Central Cancer Registry guidelines.
        • A minimum 5% of cases submitted in a 12 month period will be re-abstracted for accuracy and completeness.
        • Results of audit reported to hospitals within 30 days.

      • Conducts case findings using NAACCR Guidelines at time of site visits to document completeness of case reporting.
        • Validates cases reported at 25-30 hospitals per year.

      • Maintains all current Quality Assurance (QA) indicators with procedures, definitions, and measurements to assure consistent reporting and recording procedures.
        • Chapter on QA in Hospital Data Manual details responsibilities of QA function and is annually reviewed by QA Coordinator and Supervisor.
        • Maintains and updates the QA procedure annually or as needed.

      • Prepares State Cancer Registry quarterly reports for State Cancer Registry as outlined in contract to assure reporting in a timely manner.
        • Quarterly and annual reports completed within 30 days following completion of quarter.
        • Annual Workplan completed in March and distributed to Health Department and Supervisor.

      • Presents QA information at TRAN to update membership to assure accurate case finding and consistent reporting methods.
        • Educational presentation at annual State Registrars Workshop.

      • Functions as a team member with other State Cancer Registry staff by working cooperatively together efficiently and effectively to complete work of the registry as a whole.
        • Feedback from peers.

      • Performs death certificate clearance to identify cancer cases not previously reported by reviewing tape submitted by Bureau of Vital Statistics with State Cancer Registry data.
        • Complete review by 11/01 of second year following cancer diagnosis (e.g. 2006 data reviewed in 2008).

    • Essential Functions II

      • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
