Job Description

  • Purpose of Job
    • Maintain the daily operations of wired and wireless network infrastructure by addressing issues and needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Associate Degree with emphasis in Information or Computer Science, Software or Computer Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent technical discipline required.
      • Equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree requirements.

    • Experience
      • Minimum one year of multisite technical support experience required.
      • Experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or software-defined networking platforms preferred.

    • License/Certifications
      • Cisco Entry/Associate certification preferred.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Skills working with staff of all levels in the organization.
      • Skill communicating verbally and in writing.
      • Knowledge of Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, ASA firewalls, Cisco and Aruba wireless access points and controllers, Palo Alto firewalls, network monitoring solutions (i.e., SolarWinds) or similar technologies.
      • Working knowledge in the implementation and configuration of switching, routing, wireless communication and related network technologies and standards.
      • Basic knowledge of networking technologies (LAN/WAN cabling, switching, routing, etc.), protocols, security concerns, monitoring and wireless communications.
      • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
      • Ability to work independently and as member of a team.
      • Ability to organize and prioritize work.

    • Essential Function I

      • Network Infrastructure Support
        • Monitor, configure, repair and optimize the daily operations of all network infrastructure (routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, circuits, etc.).
        • Maintain working knowledge of all physical and logical data paths and core applications and technologies for each location within the Methodist Health System.
        • Ensure optimal performance from all workstations, equipment and locations.
        • Configure all network devices following company standards.
        • Provide technical support services and training to end users.

      • Problem Resolution
        • Resolve issues and requests within target service levels and escalate when necessary.
        • Place the highest priority on providing quality end user service.
        • Respond to problems with a sense of urgency and ensure quality resolution along with thorough and accurate documentation of the issues.
        • Escalate any situation outside scope that could adversely impact patient care or daily operations to supervisor.

      • Project Implementation
        • Complete the implementation of any network solution based on the project design, requirements and planning.
        • Complete tasks within established timelines.
        • Provide management with regular status updates on assigned project tasks.
        • Participate in project meetings as required.

      • Teamwork and Documentation
        • Collaborate with team members to meet goals and complete tasks.
        • Treat all internal/external customers and team members with dignity and respect.
        • Update documentation as new implementations are completed.
        • Actively cross-train teammates to ensure support coverage and personal development.

        • Interact with customers and vendors in a professional and courteous manner, even in stressful situations.
        • Keep stakeholders informed on status of all activities on a regular and timely basis.

        • Identify, promote and support opportunities to enhance professional and technical knowledge.
        • Recommend ways to support business priorities, needs, mission and processes of the Methodist Health System.
