Job Description

  • Purpose of Job
    • The Director of Behavioral Health will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the Behavioral Health service line to ensure program sustainability and growth. The Director will lead all aspects of the inpatient and outpatient operations, including human resources and financial outcomes. The Director will be accountable for the nursing standards of care and practice for the inpatient and outpatient departments, ensuring safe and quality care is provided.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Graduate from an accredited school with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
      • Graduate from an accredited school with a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.

    • Experience
      • 3 years of work experience to include working with patients with mental health needs and 2 years of managerial experience in a hospital setting required.

    • License/Certifications
      • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license to work in Nebraska, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
      • Board certification in Nursing via American Nurses Credentialing Center or other approved accrediting body preferred.
      • Certification as a Mental Health Nurse preferred.
      • Certifications applicable to unit specific subject matters i.e., Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and others required.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Clinical expertise with demonstrated knowledge and skill in teaching, communication, and relationship building to drive growth and outcomes of BH service line.
      • Critical thinking and interpersonal skills used to manage multiple projects.
      • Demonstrated team building and leadership skills are a must to engage staff and community.
      • Analytical skills are required in regard to data relevant to patient care, personnel, and growth of the Behavioral Health (BH) service line.

  • Essential Job Functions

    • Directs service line delivery to ensure a high level of patient satisfaction and provides guidance to BH team regarding customer service.

    • Builds relationships, develops contractual arrangements, collaborates with external community resources, and referral sources.

    • Ensures efficient financial and resource utilization and coordination of interdepartmental activities.

    • Plans and organizes patient care to ensure patient needs are met in accordance with hospital and other regulatory standards.

    • Manages inpatient and outpatient staff, including hiring, development of staff, performance evaluations, and corrective action.

    • Develops inpatient and outpatient budgets ensuring the review of cost containment, program growth, and sustainability.

    • Works closely with the BH Medical Director to establish service line goals. Meets regularly with Medical Director to ensure outcomes are met.
