  • Purpose of Job
    • Schedules patient appointments, and all surgical, and diagnostic procedures. Provides patient instruction regarding all procedures. Ensures efficient, and patient friendly workflow to help provide quality care. Updates patient demographic, and insurance information.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) required.
      • Post-secondary education/training in healthcare, or business operations preferred.

    • Experience
      • Minimum of 1-3 years in patient scheduling, insurance registration, or patient care delivery required.

    • License/Certifications
      • N/A

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Knowledge of medical terminology required.

  • Essential Job Functions
    • Essential Functions I

      • Schedule Operating Room (OR)/in-office surgical procedure, induction of labor or caesarean section as directed by surgeon.
        • Facilitates scheduling assistant surgeon if necessary.
        • Coordinates and schedules surgery with other departments/surgeons for combination cases.
        • Contacts Methodist Access Center Surgery Scheduling to finalize surgical procedures.

      • Provides Access Center Surgery Scheduling with surgeon orders including but limited to pre-operative medications, pre-operative appointments, labs and diagnostic scheduling.
        • Works with patient to schedule any upcoming appointments required by surgeon.

      • Modifies surgeons schedule if necessary working with reception staff for displacement of scheduled patients.
        • Contacts patient with any surgical change due to surgeon schedule if necessary.

      • Gathers and distributes appropriate educational materials/information such as Expectation Management and Medical Information (EMMI) program or American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) brochures to patient regarding upcoming surgical procedures.
        • Provides instruction booklet, surgical checklist, pre-operative and post-operative instruction sheet, Chlorhexidine (CHG) soap to patient if necessary.

      • Facilitates verification of insurance including pre-authorization if required/necessary. Works with Methodist insurance verification nurses if needed.
        • Works with surgeon on filing and filling out Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork for patient if necessary.

      • Maintains and keeps pap log for Methodist Women's Center.
        • Working with floor staff to prepare and mail patient lab results.

      • Reports significant incidents related to patients or department activities and seeks supervision when needed.

      • Uses work time productively, demonstrates ability to organize time and sets appropriate priorities.

      • Promotes a positive clinic image by setting a professional first impression, which includes adhering to the Women's Center Behavior Standards.

      • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.

      • Follows and understands the mission, vision, core values, Employee Standards of Behavior and company policies/procedures.
