  • Purpose of Job
    • Application Support Specialists' II primary responsibilities involve assisting clinical providers and staff with navigating the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System, called Cerner PowerChart. Application Support Specialists are experts in understanding how providers, nurses/medical assistants (MA), receptionists, residents, nurse practitioners (NP) and MA students utilize the Cerner system. In addition to offering training, MPC Support is available during clinic hours and after hours to provide immediate response to service calls and emails from providers and staff.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • Requires a level of knowledge normally associated with an Associate Degree in a Health Care related field or a minimum of 2 years' experience in an application support or training related position.

    • Experience
      • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as an application support specialist level I or in a position with primary responsibility of Information Techology (IT) support and/or application training.
      • Alternately, a combination of minimum of Associates Degree or higher in health informatics or related field and 2 years' experience in application support.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Requires ability to analyze, define and resolve process and application issues.
      • Knowledge of Meaningful Use requirements preferred.

      • Project leads for system changes and/or code upgrade to include involvement in decision making, development, testing, development of training materials, training of team members and onsite support.
        • Have specialized knowledge in an application or process including those required to comply with requirements for federal programs of Meaningful Use (MU) and Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS).

      • Dedicated on-site support for assigned clinics.

      • In-depth understanding of clinic workflow to ensure that system changes/upgrades are not detrimental to the physicians and staff in the ambulatory setting.

      • Be seen as a resource by clinic staff, Information Technology (IT) and other team members in Methodist Physicians Clinics (MPC) Support.

      • Develop and update training materials.

      • Schedule trainings, meetings, and follow ups.

      • Setting up and editing all user profile defaults in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

      • Train new and existing employees on all Electronic Medical Records (EMR) applications.

      • Help develop, test, and train new applications.

      • Troubleshoot Electronic Medical Records (EMR) issues and report issues to Information Technology (I.T.) on behalf of users.

      • Assist with clinic workflow.

      • Summit enhancement requests on behalf of users.

      • Support users via phone calls, emails and onsite support.

      • Correct mistakes made in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

      • Act as a go-between for users, management, Information Technology (I.T.), and other departments.

      • Help set up new clinics with their work flow, pools, proxies, and equipment needs.

      • Communicate goals and expectations for Meaningful Use requirements.

      • Create and maintain spreadsheets using Word, Excel, and other computer applications.

      • Monitor explorer reports for missed messages and incorrectly routed documents/results.

      • Attend and participate in projects.

      • Enter Physician requests with proper documentation/specification sheets, research and screenshot verification when needed.

      • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
