Job Description

  • Purpose of Job
    • Prepares exam rooms and equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients by setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies.
  • Job Requirements
    • Education
      • High school diploma, General Educational development (GED) or equivalent required.
      • Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) diploma from an accredited program.
      • Participates in mandatory in services and continuing education programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by supervisor.

    • Experience
      • Previous Medical Assistant/medical experience preferred.
      • Previous Wound experience preferred

    • License/Certifications
      • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
      • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification preferred.

    • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
      • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures required.
      • Knowledge of medicine including recognizing and diagnosed diseases, deformities, and other illnesses.
      • Skill to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
      • Skill to proficiently type information into the computer to capture or detail information quickly.
      • Ability to provide caring patient care services when talking with patients and their family members.
      • Ability to critically listen to questions from patients and information from physicians so that you can convey the information effectively.
      • Ability to recognize problems early to help avoid bigger problems in the future.
      • Ability to problem solve during several daily activities which includes the ability to be flexible.
      • Ability to use and navigate through computer programs that contain patient information.
      • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with physicians, staff and patients required.
      • Able to follow written and verbal instructions required.

  • Essential Job Functions
    • Essential Functions I


      • Prepares exam rooms and equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients by setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies.
        • Prepares exam rooms and medical equipment according to provider protocol 95% of the time.
        • Rooms are turned around in a timely manner.
        • Independently manages all ordering, stocking and supplying of the clinic and exam rooms.
        • Independently manages all equipment sterilization needs for department by working with sterile processing and ensures all equipment is returned to the appropriate room/area within acceptable time.

      • Prepares patient for exam by reviewing Electronic Medical Records (EMR), completing the patient check in process, obtains information relevant to patient needs and documenting accurately in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
        • Prepares patient for exam by following provider protocol in a timely manner.
        • Completes patient checkin process; eight, Weight, blood pressure, fall risk, pain assessment, depression risk assessment.
        • Documents thoroughly and accurately in EMR within 24 hours.

      • Provides patient care duties:
        • Prepares patient for provider exam as directed by removing bandages and cleansing wound per wound clinic established protocol.
        • Assists provider with hands on treatments such as but not limited to; positioning, lifting, or as directed by provider and within the scope of licensure.
        • Provides wound treatment or completes procedure as prescribed by provider.

      • Maintains work areas to ensure healthy environment conditions by cleaning and organizing equipment, rooms and work space:
        • Organizes and maintains all clinical care stock.
        • Organizes, cleans, restocks all exam and clinical areas independently.
        • Keeps supplies up to date and appropriately disposes any out dated materials.

      • At the direction of the provider provides patient and family education.
        • Educates at the direction of the provider and documents education and materials given.

      • Covers the front reception area as directed.
        • Serves as a back up to secretary as directed.
        • Answers phone professionally.
        • Assist with intake, scheduling and other duties as assigned.

      • Provides appropriate care specific to Age Specific Criteria.

    • Essential Functions II


      • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.

      • Follows and understands the mission, vision, core values, Employee Standards of Behavior and company policies/procedures.

      • Other duties as assigned.
